A Message from the Executive Director
As we now pass the one year "anniversary" of the Stay Home Order, it’s easy to grow weary of what science tells us is effective – masks, social distancing, and the lesson that all preschoolers know – wash your hands – a lot. Each day, as more and more people get vaccinated, we are getting closer to the goal of resuming more in person services. To each of you reading this, please help us all reach that goal. While we don’t yet know what this new normal will be, I do believe that with community effort, we will get to the new normal soon.
We are embarking on our planning for our new Strategic Plan. We look forward from hearing from our community on what role First 5 San Joaquin can play in addressing new issues that have escalated or arisen due to COVID. Focus groups will be occurring throughout the community (virtually) and we are hopeful that a survey will distributed in order for us to hear more from those that live and work in the community. If you have any ideas on ways we can support the community, please reach out to one of us at First 5 San Joaquin at sjckids@sjgov.org.
In Community Partnership,
Lani Schiff-Ross

Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment
California law requires that children have a Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KHOA) by May 31 of their first school year. This requirement helps children get the oral health care they need to be healthy and ready for school, and the KOHA is a great opportunity for parents and guardians to learn about their child’s oral health.
