God Bless the '69ers!
This is a note of an extraordinary nature. The second class in school history has, itself, proven extraordinary. It burnished our nascent school’s reputation for high academic standards. Its ranks are filled with significant success stories. And it is the only class in school history to graduate greater than 200, clocking in at 208 -- 100 more than the Class of ’68!

The Class of 1969 produced the first individual alumnus to enter the Hudson Catholic Hall of Fame (Tom Bender) and the Chair of the Save Our School Campaign that kept Hudson Catholic from closure in 2008, the present Chairman of the school’s Board of Consultors (Brian Neary), and one of the most popular teachers in school annals (Jim O’Donnell), himself a published author of numerous books on the Rock ‘n’ Roll scene. This, in addition to a number of high level and high profile successes in the business world.

As part of their celebration of the 50th anniversary of their commencement from Hudson Catholic, the ‘69ers reunited at The Breakers in Spring Lake. Their pride and generosity were on full display when Steve Honsinger, Bob Stroebel, and Tony Policari presented a class gift of $31,900 in August to the Hudson Catholic Student Emergency Fund, as a baton pass from their class to the classes of today.

Fast forward to February, and the class presented a second gift to the school of $26,600! A third amount, $7,000 remains on hand with the Alumni Association, to serve as an Alumni Leadership Program Award in future. Typical of their overachieving nature, combined with other gifts given by class members directly to the school, the Class of ’69 exceeded their goal of $69,000 raised for Hudson Catholic this year!

This class has experienced the tragic loss of some of its members in the past year who were remembered during the Annual Alumni Mass of Remembrance in November 2020, and will be so again this coming November 7th. Here, we remember and honor the memory of our brother Hawks who have gone on to eternal rest, and how their lives served to enrich the Hudson Catholic community and experience.

Student/Partner Alliance
Bears Great News for Next School Year
Recently, the Student/Partner Alliance (S/PA) informed our students in 9th, 10th and 11th grades about the tuition assistance they can expect to receive for the 2021-2022 school year.

Recognizing that these are very tough economic times, the S/PA decided to raise their annual scholarship amount per student by $700, from $1,800 per student in 2020-2021, to $2,500 for the 2021/22 school year, and thereafter.

The S/PA will also provide a one-time Covid supplement of $700 for 2021-2022 school year, so the total tuition assistance per student next school year will be $3,200!

Margaret Momber, Executive Director of S/PA, stated “We are very proud of all your efforts to continue your education virtually over the past year. We know that it’s a challenge and you have shown resilience and a lot of hard work. We are proud of you.”
Reunion Interest?

For members of any and all classes who may have interest in planning a class reunion, the Office of Advancement is happy to announce that we can provide organizing assistance to help make sure your class can hold an enjoyable event.

In fact, we are beginning to explore the concept of hosting a Reunion Weekend at Hudson Catholic (the gym never looked so good!) whereby we can host multiple classes at once and all can enjoy the economies of scale.

The initial concept is to organize for all classes experiencing five and ten year anniversaries during 2021-2022 school year, for example, Classes of 2017, 2012, 2007, 2002, 1997, etc.

It may be time to come back to the Hawks Nest to see what is going on in today’s Hudson Catholic, see your favorite teacher and classmates, and see what the place looks like!

We are happy to have those interested in organizing their class reunion join with us to ensure a memorable occasion. Prospective volunteers should contact Jill Cypher at jcypher@hudsoncatholic.org.

Calling All Alums:
Business Manager Wanted

After serving Hudson Catholic for xx years in the role of Business Manager, Ms. Dilma Cirino has announced her plans to head off into retirement and to return to her native Puerto Rico to be with family. We will miss her dedication to our school and her pleasant ways in working our way around the books. Please feel free to extend your well wishes to her before the end of this school year.

Which means, we are looking for her successor. We think this is a great opportunity to avail our alumni network of a professional opportunity that aligns with the concept of giving back to alma mater. Based on experience and credentials, the salary range for this role is $50,000 - $60,000.

This is a 12-month role that offers a full benefit package. It may be suitable for either a young alum with experience in the accounting field who is looking to step into a management/ leadership role, or for a recently retired or semi-retired professional looking to step off a bigger stage and lend their talents to their alma mater, as several alums currently do for Hudson Catholic.

Interested parties may request the role description and duties at advancement@hudsoncatholic.org.

Giving to Hudson Catholic
Is Your Name on the List?

We are less than two months away from the end of the school year, therefore our fiscal year. At the conclusion of June, the Office of Advancement will commence compilation of the Annual Report of Giving to acknowledge and thank all of our many constituents who have given generously of themselves throughout the year.

For your consideration, our defined Giving Levels (or Clubs, as some organizations refer to them) are as follows:

Founders’ Circle ($100,000+)
Legacy Circle ($25,000+)
LaSallian Circle ($10,000+)
Signum Fidei ($5,000 - $9,999)
Black & Gold Circle ($2,000 - $4,99
Our Heroes ($1,000 - $1,999)
McGinley Square ($500 - $999)
Mercer Street ($250 - $499)
Bergen Avenue ($100 - $249)
Hawk’s Nest (gifts up to $99)

Many donors are aware of their level of giving to a particular charitable organization, but sometimes are not. And some donors have a charitable giving strategy or schedule to ensure they reach their giving aims, while others are more casual about their giving. In either event, should you be curious as to your giving status at present, and the foregoing levels prompt you to target a certain level, please reach out to advancement@hudsoncatholic.org to inquire about your year-to-date giving record, and go to www.hudsoncatholic.org/1964 to make your gift before July 1st.
Where Are They?
(formerly known as 'LOST ALUMNI')

Recently, an online skirmish broke out over the use of the term ‘Lost’ to describe alumni with whom we are out of touch due to a lack of contact information. It was alleged that the term ‘Lost’ implies ‘deceased’. So we went to Dictionary.com and found five definitions:

·     no longer possessed or retained:lost friends
·     no longer to be found:lost articles
·     having gone astray or missed the way; bewildered as to place:lost children
·     not used to good purpose, as opportunities, time; wasted:lost advantage
·     being something that someone has failed to win:a lost prize

Synonyms for ‘Lost’
·     forfeited, gone, missing
·     confused, perplexed
·     squandered

No mention of, or reference to, ‘deceased’ or anything remotely resembling such a condition. We apologize for any confusion caused, so have changed our section titling to “Where Are They?” Ordinarily, attribution would be given to the alum who raised this concern, but we are not in the business of embarrassing our graduates, their college prep school, or the faculty who schooled them! But you know who you are!

Now let’s get out there and find these people!

We have no phone, email, or mailing addresses for these graduates. Send information to advancement@hudsoncatholic.org.
