Update from NAGA Alberta
Response Received from
Dr. Hinshaw, Chief Medical Officer of Health

May 9, 2021

Dear Golf Industry Partners / Key Stakeholders,

NAGA AB has been working with the Alberta Government throughout the weekend advocating on behalf of the industry. Although we were hoping for a province-wide decision, Dr. Hinshaw has confirmed today that the following will apply for golf starting tomorrow, May 10th (Monday):
  • low case regions will be permitted to open with golfers being allowed to play with individuals outside of their own household.

  • high case regions will be permitted to open however golfers are restricted to same households only or a person living alone with the same 2 close contacts. Additional details can be found in our May 7th communication.

We have been advised that Dr. Hinshaw’s office will be monitoring the situation closely in both areas and will continue to work with NAGA AB to make adjustments as necessary.
Know Which Region You Are In
High case regions are those that have a per capita rate of 50 per 100,000 and with more than 30 active cases. The list of the municipalities affected are posted here as of May 8th. This list changes frequently as case rates fluctuate. To determine the per capita rate in your municipality as well as the active cases, please click here.

The National Allied Golf Association (NAGA) Alberta remains committed to working in partnership with the Province of Alberta and will update the industry with any future announcements with respect to golf. We understand that these are very trying and complicated times for our industry but ask for your cooperation while we proceed through the next stage of discussions with government officials along with our Government Relations Advisor, Bruce McAllister and team. Government can make changes daily and NAGA Alberta continues to advocate on the behalf of the industry.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.
