ALL-SCHOOL NEWS
No School Tomorrow & Monday

School will be closed tomorrow, Friday, February 17, because it is a Spring Gala winner's designated day off. The day off on Friday is courtesy of the Bronov Family who was the winning bidder at the Spring Gala & Auction on the item, "School's Out!" As the winning bidder, they were able to pick one day when the entire school gets the day off. Next Monday, February 20, is President's Day, so school will be closed on that day, too. Thank you, Bronov family. We know the students are grateful for the extra long weekend.

Second Graders Study STEAM

This week, our second graders explored some STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) projects in CCA's makerspace room related to Valentine's Day. They used beads to spell out Valentine's Day words using binary code.
Fourth Graders Share South American Landmark Project Presentations

Both fourth-grade classes completed a study of the continent of South America. They each chose a landmark in South America and created a model with details about the site and why it is important. Students created a travel brochure to entice people to plan a vacation there, and each student gave a detailed presentation to the lower school community in a gallery walk during last Friday's Assembly.
Fifth Graders Visit the Museum of Science in Boston

Our fifth graders embarked on a field trip to Boston's Museum of Science this week. Students, teachers, and chaperones alike enjoyed engaging with physical science and engineering exhibits and observing live wildlife. The group was also able to enjoy "Everest", a story about the world's tallest mountain and one of the greatest human adventures ever in the Museum's IMAX theater.
Ninth Graders Visit The MIT Museum

The ninth-grade students headed to the MIT Museum on Monday. While in Cambridge, they also visited the Media Lab/Architecture Center and the Stata Center designed by Frank Gehry. They stopped by the MIT Chapel, one of the iconic MIT campus buildings designed by Eero Saarinen. They took a walk down to Central Square in Cambridge where they took some time to shop and eat.
French Cuisine Seminar

Students in CCA's French Cuisine seminar enjoyed an outing to Amie's Bakery in Osterville. They met with the owner and chef and enjoyed a French breakfast.
Valentine's Day for Senior Citizens

The Parents' Association sponsored a special Valentine's Day activity with our students. They asked CCA students from all grades to make Valentine's Day cards to be distributed to local senior citizens. The PA dropped off the cards at assisted-living facilities and nursing homes.
PA Bake Sale Raises Money for Local Charity

The Parents' Association raised over $400 from the bake sale they held this week for Healing Little Hearts at Boston Children's Hospital. Thank you to our families who donated baked goods to make this a successful event.
Alumni Share Experiences with Students in Career Exploration Seminar

This week, our tenth-graders in the seminar, Career Exploration, spoke via Zoom with alumnus, Dr. Reza Hosseini Ghomi '01. Dr. Ghomi is a physician, engineer, teacher, entrepreneur, and community builder. He spends half of his time seeing patients through his practice with Frontier Psychiatry which serves primarily patients in Montana. The other half of the time he works with health technology companies to advance patient care. He also teaches post-graduate medical residents, and medical, PhD, masters, and undergraduate students at the University of Washington.

Dr. Ghomi spoke to our sophomores about careers in mental health, and he shared his long career journey. An important message he conveyed was that students do not have to pigeonhole themselves into one career. He assured them that if they choose a career/college that does not fit their interests, they can easily readjust. He believes that moving forward having multiple careers (as he does) will become the norm. He spoke fondly of his time as a student at CCA.
