Your Future Begins Here
Throughout the year, we walk our faith with the blind trust that God is forgiving and always with us; however, the forty days we walk during Lent provide the opportunity to transform ourselves through prayer, our actions, and reconciliation.

On a daily basis, Saint Joseph High School strives to guide our students to recognize, embrace, and deepen their faith. What does that look like during Lent? Earlier this week, students participated in a period of quiet reflection during our Penance Service, with multiple priests onsite to hear confession. Classrooms are competing in an Operation Rice Bowl challenge, and on April 12, we will gather for our annual school-wide Stations of the Cross, performed live by students themselves.

These communal events, in addition to daily prayer before, during, and after school, help us to center ourselves during this sacred season.

May we find ourselves seeking to transform in heart and mind during these last few weeks of Lent. The challenge is great, but the promise is worth the journey.

May Easter Blessings shine upon you!

Mock Trial Splits Ballots at Regional Competition

Last month the Saint Joe Mock Trial team of Emma Betz, Aiden Dowdle, Luke Matthys, Anthony Mendez, Pelayo Muniz, Olivia Orians, Angela Pham, Devyn Rafinski, Carmelo Russo, and Jonathan Yergler competed in the regional mock trial competition.

The team faced a difficult schedule, competing against three teams that ultimately ended up qualifying for the state competition.

Despite the tough schedule, the team performed admirably, splitting ballots in two of the three trials.
Calculator Challenge

The Saint Joe Mathletes hosted a Calculator Challenge open to all SJHS students. Participants were able to use a four-function calculator to work on Algebra 2-level problems, but the calculator had to stay 30 feet away from their writing utensil and the questions themselves.
Class of 2022 Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and SJ Scholars

Congratulations to Brendan Gonzales, valedictorian; Samuel Thomas, salutatorian; and the forty-seven Saint Joe Scholars listed below! These students will be recognized at All-School Mass during Bishop Rhoades' visit on April 26.
Valedictorian Brendan Gonzales graduated from St. Pius X in 2018, and is the only student to take six Advanced Placement courses in a seven-course schedule as a junior, and as a senior take AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, and Calculus III H.

Brendan is a captain of the Mathletes and a four-year member of the team, a founding member of the Unity Council, the Senior Vice President of FBLA, a member of the National Honor Society, and a peer mentor.

His favorite course is AP Physics, a fan of the class's faith-integrated approach that allows him to see order amid the chaos and describe the world that God created.

Brendan appreciates the community within Saint Joe and enjoys coming to school each day surrounded by peers that share his passion for knowledge, as well as teachers who provide unconditional support.
Salutatorian Samuel Thomas graduated from Christ the King in 2018 and has left a footprint throughout a myriad activities around Saint Joe. He is a four-year varsity member and two-year captain of Quiz Bowl, as well as having taken part in: National Honor Society, Chess Club, Mathletes, Spanish Honor Society, Euro Challenge, Tennis, and GREIA Tutoring. Samuel was also an Altar Server, Lector, and Minister of Holy Communion.

His favorite course is AP Chemistry because it allows Samuel to learn how the world functions while learning the science behind all the reactions. His courses at Saint Joe remind him that faith is the most central part of his life, not just in Theology class, but in the way everyone on campus interacts with each other in a loving way. Samuel says the relationship between faith and education led to him being the person he is today.

Samuel will always remember the experiences of competing for the different clubs at Saint Joe, enjoying the fun of preparing, competing, and forming friendships with his classmates along the way.
The Class of 2022 Saint Joseph Scholars have maintained a 4.0 or above grade point average throughout their four years at Saint Joseph High School.
