A new book by Edda Fields-Black, associate professor in the Department of History, details Harriet Tubman’s role in an event that freed more than 700 enslaved people during the Civil War.

Data Science and Athletics Team To Tackle 2024 NFL Big Data Bowl

Two graduate student teams from the Department of Statistics & Data Science competed as finalists in the 2024 Big Data Bowl, an annual sports analytics contest hosted by NFL Football Operations.

The Statistics & Data Science Alumni & Department Lunch is open to alumni, graduate students and faculty/staff of the Statistics & Data Science community. The event allows alumni and graduate students to reconnect. Register on the Carnival page for the event.


The Stephen and Joyce Fienberg Memorial Lecture will begin at 4 p.m. and is open to the entire CMU community. The lecture is a tribute to the late Stephen and Joyce Fienberg for their distinctive contributions to the statistical community. This year's lecturer is Alicia L. Carriquiry, Distinguished Professor and President's Chair, director of the Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence at Iowa State University. Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences Brunch & Buggy will begin at 9:30 a.m on the Baker Hall patio. A light brunch will be provided as viewers catch up on the races. Register on the Carnival page for the event.
