Holly Wharton Appointed City of Perry Economic Development Director

Perry Mayor and Council appointed Holly Wharton as the City’s Economic Development Director during their December 20, 2022, council meeting.

Mrs. Wharton will spearhead the continued efforts of ensuring Perry is a quality community in which to conduct business and an attractive community in which to grow or locate a new business.

She previously served as the City of Perry’s Community Planner. Before coming to work in Perry, she was a Government Services Specialist at the Middle Georgia Regional Commission. She assisted local governments in the middle Georgia area with planning, grant writing and administration, economic development, and other public administration projects.

“I am very excited to serve the City of Perry as the Economic Development Director,” says Wharton. “Perry is a growing city with great quality of life amenities and a strong business community. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to showcase where Georgia comes together.”

City of Perry Receives Award for Revitalization Support of The Muse Theater

The City of Perry was awarded the International Economic Development Council Silver Award for the revitalization support of The Muse Theater in Historic Downtown Perry.

This award recognizes innovative real estate development or reuse projects for the creation of jobs or for increasing the tax base. By demonstrating a measurable and quantitative impact on employment and the tax base, the recipient also serves as a catalyst for economic development in the area and demonstrates innovative partnership approaches including public and private sectors.

After serving as a concert and event venue from the 1950s to 2012, the building was converted to an antique store for several years. To preserve as much historical nature as possible while creating a beautiful event space for the community, City staff worked with the Downtown Development Authority to secure funding for the building’s renovation. Appropriately named “The Muse Theatre,” the goal was to give Perry back one of its beloved historic buildings.

The Muse Theater hosts various events, including weddings, concerts, business, chamber receptions, and more!
