Greetings!

Springtime is springing up all around us. Newness abounds...trees are budding, grass is growing, and birds are singing loudly announcing they are back-what a beautiful sound!
New beginnings is what we are celebrating at CFGC. We are so thrilled to have completed our expansion project, increasing the center’s footprint to 8,800 square feet, adding a new entrance, conference room, and a total of 22 treatment rooms to increase our capacity to serve our community.
We wish you new beginnings, a fresh start...letting go of the past, willingness to release hurts and disappointments and looking ahead to a bright future and all the wonderful possibilities it holds.
Please take a few minutes to catch up with us.

Sincerely,
Brenda Hayward

Ten Things You Can Do to Prevent Child Abuse

  1. Volunteer your time. Get involved with other parents in your community. Help vulnerable children and their families. Start a playgroup.
  2. Discipline your children thoughtfully. Never discipline your child when you are upset. Give yourself time to calm down. Remember that discipline is a way to teach your child. Use privileges to encourage good behavior and time-outs to help your child regain control.
  3. Examine your behavior. Abuse is not just physical. Both words and actions can inflict deep, lasting wounds. Be a nurturing parent. Use your actions to show children and other adults that conflicts can be settled without hitting or yelling.

YAY!! Challenge Grant Achieved!!
We are so excited to announce the challenge grant for the Changing Lives Capital Campaign was achieved!
Last summer, in addition to $450,000 raised for the expansion plan, the Mabee Foundation challenged CFGC to raise $142,000 to receive their gift of $135,000. Just last week the Moody Foundation from Houston, Texas awarded $100,000 toward the project putting us over our goal. The Mabee Foundation quickly followed by sending on their gift of $135,000. We want to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who donated to this greatly needed project allowing CFGC to expand capacity and do more to help Texoma children and families for decades to come.

Childhood Depression and Anxiety in the Age of COVID-19
Posted 11.09.2021
Written by Eda Gorbis, Ph.D., LMFT

Being a child was difficult enough before the pandemic. With the rise of standardized tests and increasing pressure on students to do well academically, children and adolescents are constantly inundated with homework in an effort to ensure they keep up with the standards of their schools. Many come into school with significant disadvantages such as food insecurity, poverty, and traumatic family backgrounds. According to Feeding America, a non-profit organization whose mission is to combat food insecurity and hunger in the United States, an estimated thirteen million children go without regular meals. When children go hungry on a regular basis, this can cause social, behavioral, and developmental issues such as language and motor skill impairment, development of anxiety and depression, and chronic illness. (Weinreb et al., 2002.)
