Annual Time & Talent Survey

Happy Thanksgiving Week - Although Thanksgiving is a secular holiday, it is a reminder of being thankful. One of the things that I am very thankful for is this church that God has given us. On Sunday, I shared my gratitude for all the volunteers who help our church to faithfully minister. It’s exciting to see how vibrant and active we are, and it’s in part because of your willingness to volunteer and serve. For example, it takes about 25-30 people to run even a regular Sunday morning service. And yet, we know all of the other events and activities that this church puts on also require volunteers, and we see people step up and take on those events and activities. I am very thankful for all of the time and energy that they graciously give to make this church feel so alive.

So as the Session begins planning for various ministries in the coming year, I want to ask you to prayerfully discern how God is calling you to volunteer. If you have already filled out the annual Time and Talent Survey, thank you! If you have not, don’t worry, you can still fill one out either in the church office or by using the form from the church website here

It’s exciting to see all the ways we can volunteer within this church family. If you’re not sure what opportunity would be a good fit, or not sure what is involved with those activities, please ask! Some areas of ministry occur once per year, some are more often, some are each week, but there is a rotation for weekly activities so that the same folks are not doing those each time.

Please consider what part of this church you are being called to participate in. I sincerely believe that it’s the people within the church body that make our ministry so vibrant, and that together, we can faithfully follow where God is leading us in this new year!

Thank you!

-KC Savage

Thanksgiving Meal Boxes

This past Sunday, we collected donations of boxed up meals for families in need to be able to have a Thanksgiving meal this week. Because of your generosity, 40 families will get to enjoy a meal this Thanksgiving holiday. Thanks to David and Vickie Jones for helping to organize this opportunity and deliver the boxes, thanks to everyone from CHPC who lovingly prepared a meal box, and thanks to Colonial Heights Christian Church for partnering with us to make all of this happen!

November Session Summary

Your Session met on Monday evening, November 20. Items of interest included a request from Missions for a volunteer to work with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to clear and coordinate new requests for beds (speak with Allen Booth for more info); a request from Presbytery for congregational members for Presbytery Committees (Speak with David or Clark for more info); and the unanimous approval of a budget for 2024. The approved budget will be shared at a Congregational Meeting to be called for January. The next Stated Session meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 18 at 5:30 pm.

Gospel Holiday Home Tour!

A special child will be born to us on Christmas, but this year, we take the time to see what is unique about each of the four homes he is born into. This year at CHPC, each Sunday worship service throughout Advent will focus on the various Christmas stories in the four Gospels and will be told through our music.

Cynthia Campbell's book, "Christmas in the Four Gospel Homes", will be one of our tour guides throughout this season. For anyone that wishes to discuss the book in a bible study atmosphere, two opportunities are available during the week: the Wednesday Afternoon Bible Study that meets at 3 pm or the Remnant Sunday School Class that meets after worship at 11 am. Copies of the book are available in the Narthex. Books are $10 and any payment may be left in the basket by the books, dropped off in the office, or given through Realm.

Join Us for a Special Dinner

and "No Talent" Show!

All are welcome to a special dinner and "No Talent Show" on December 3 at 5 pm in the gym. It will be an evening full of laughs and fun as we share our talents with one another. If you have a talent you would like to share with our church family, please let Gretchen Bentley or Joanie Zimmerman know.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA)

Relief Efforts in Israel/Palestine

PDA seeks to find solutions to alleviate the human suffering happening in Gaza by supporting partners in Palestine and Israel who are responding to the needs of neighbors and strangers in their midst, no matter their religious beliefs, political views or nationality. We are called to care for all of God’s children, especially those in war-torn communities, by responding to the urgent needs of those directly affected by the current conflict. Please pray for peace and safe passage for those seeking help and fleeing the ongoing chaos.

More can be learned about PDA's important work here by visiting their website. If you feel called to contribute financially, please do so through PDA's giving portal here. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers for peace!
