Community Personalities

A study by Florida Atlantic University’s Kevin Lanning, Ph.D., senior author and a professor of psychology and data science in the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, and collaborators explored the possibility of defining communities based on "personality."

Using data from the Synthetic Aperture Personality Assessment, they investigated the impact of person-community fit on education, health and well-being. The results showed clear personalities differences among some communities and indications that having like-minded people in one's community is associated with positive outcomes.

Posters at the Capitol

Four students from Florida Atlantic participated in the third annual Florida Undergraduate Research Posters at the Capitol event in Tallahassee, organized by the Florida Undergraduate Research Association.

Danny Alice, Seymour Haque, Numana Luqman and August Stone earned their spots through a competitive selection process that included research entries from universities across the state. In addition to presenting their research, the students had the opportunity to meet with legislators and learn more about the political process.

QEP Kickoff

Florida Atlantic's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is an initiative to change the culture of teaching and learning at the university by investing in and supporting student-centered education. Guided by the principles of the Learning Assistant (LA) program model, courses are designed by faculty to foster active, collaborative learning experiences facilitated by trained undergraduate LAs.

A QEP kick-off event was held on the Jupiter campus where members of the campus community were invited to learn about the LA model from faculty and students who have been part of a pilot program on campus. The event included a visit to see the Honors Calculus I LA class in action.
