One of Marquette Catholic's rising writing stars has added another award to her blossoming resume.

Junior Leah Lawson received word this week that "A Daydream", a poem she submitted as part of the Young Writers' Imagine! poetry contest, has been selected for publication in its "American Dreams" edition.

Established as a platform for young writers to become more inspired and confident, the program accepted over 2,000 entries from across the country.

This marks the second accolade for Lawson this calendar year. She claimed first prize in the Michigan City Commission for Women Poetry Contest this past February for "The Worries of a Black Woman."

A Daydream

In school, I imagine a world without worries
A world where we can all live stress-free
A world just like our childhood stories
We'd all float around blissfully, in my daydreams

We'd battle against villains and all evil
And live in a luxurious reality
All would be welcome, all people
We'd see the true meaning of a fantasy

I would be a princess crowned
There'd be magic, music, and more
We'd dance on our toes and float around
It'd truly be heaven galore

There'd be warlocks, witches, and woes
And a beautiful waterfall by the bay
There'd be fairies, talking foxes, and foes
And beautiful, bright, blissful days

You, the reader, are there as well
You'd have your own kingdom to rule
And at sunset when we all hear the bell
Fantasy fades and we're back at school.
