“Elate with hope her race no longer mourns,
Each soul expands, each grateful bosom burns,
While in thine hand with pleasure we behold
The silken reins, and Freedom’s charms unfold.”

Celebrating Juneteenth
In honor of Juneteenth—the legal end of enslavement in the United States—the MHS invites you to explore two online displays. Our National History Day Juneteenth web exhibition features six student projects from the 2021–2022 NHD competition in Massachusetts that explore topics related to African American history and culture. Celebrating Juneteenth highlights a selection of materials from the collection of the MHS that relate to the abolitionist movement, the struggle for emancipation, and those who fought for freedom.
