Event Highlights

FEI-St. Louis members met at Marriott Maryville Center for the October Dinner and Speaker Event, which featured Alaina Macia, CEO of MTM.

In a fireside chat with Board Member Sue Hites, Alaina explained the history of MTM, her plans for growing the company, and some details of her management style. She emphasized the importance of taking risks based on data and maintaining a team-based culture within the workplace.

For the November, FEI-St. Louis members gathered for a luncheon at The Gallery in Chesterfield's The District. Speaker Michael Staenberg, President of the Staenberg Group, discussed his many properties and what it takes to develop properties that provide patrons with a great experience. During his presentation, he emphasized the importance of being prompt, honest, respectful, and giving back.

Supply Chain Insights

from Husch Blackwell

The Enforce and Protect Act (EAPA) presents some unique features to consider for CFOs and others whose companies rely on imported goods and components. Learn why it is important—particularly for nonlegal officers—to have some understanding of the legal frameworks involved in supply chain decisions related to EAPA from Washington-based partners Nithya Nagarajan, Jeff Neeley, and Steve Brophy.

For additional information on international trade and other key legal issues, particularly as they impact manufacturers and their supply chain partners, check out Husch Blackwell’s new report, Legal Insights for Manufacturing.

Member Spotlight: Greg Meier

President and CEO of Peak Organization Performance

The November FEI Spotlight shines on Greg Meier, CPA, CGMA, President and CEO of Peak Organization Performance. Greg is also the Board Chair for Easterseals Midwest, a charity he’s actively supported for sixteen years. Easterseals isn’t the only organization Greg supports. He and his wife started a youth ministry at Bernadette Catholic Church in the early 1990s, and in 1997 the group raised $22,000 to take ten teenagers to World Youth Day in Paris, France. The trip, which culminated in an overnight vigil and mass with Pope John Paul II in the Hippodrome, was “an unbelievable faith journey, 2 years in the making.”

In 2008, he joined FEI intent on expanding his professional network. Although Greg’s a member of multiple professional groups, he feels that FEI is unique. “When I go to FEI gatherings, I feel that I am not just with business colleagues, but friends. Members are interested in learning about and supporting each other. I can call other members on a topic and be very transparent that I don’t know the answer and need/want their input. They are always gracious enough to share their knowledge without judgement.”

The monthly speaker series is another reason he values membership in FEI-St. Louis. Although he’s a soccer fan and particularly enjoys St. Louis City SC games, one speaker who made a particular impact on him was Tom Stillman, the majority owner of the St. Louis Blues. “As he talked about his journey as a highly successful business owner, he remained rooted in his customer base and truly understood them. He talked very deeply about Blues fans and his desire to put a product on the ice that they would be proud of. He is not a detached executive nor sports team owner.”

Now that Greg and his wife are permanently empty nesters, they’re enjoying spending time on themselves—walking/hiking, travelling, and enjoying nights out without their children. Even though he’s busy with work, volunteer projects, and family, Greg still makes time for FEI-St. Louis, an organization he values. He is just one of the many financial leaders who make FEI-St. Louis the premier organization for financial executives in the St. Louis area.

See the Benefits

Hello FEI members,

In today's ever-evolving business landscape, managers are constantly juggling the need for the right talent with budget constraints. The question is, can you afford a lengthy search for talent in these uncertain times, and can you invest in retaining your existing team effectively?

To help you address these pressing questions and navigate the challenges of the current economic environment, we're excited to introduce Robert Half's latest eBook: "The Manager’s Guide to Uncertain Economic Times."

Key Highlights from the eBook:

  • Insightful guidance to help you better understand and adapt to the shifting economic landscape.
  • Strategies for navigating workplace challenges and maximizing opportunities to build successful teams.
  • Tips for avoiding common management pitfalls during uncertain times.
  • Practical advice to start making an impact immediately.

Our eBook delves into the complexities of today's economic climate, including concerns about inflation and recession, changing interest rates, the lingering effects of the global pandemic, and the challenges posed by the Great Resignation. These influences often lead to unclear priorities, leadership changes, and hiring constraints, impacting workplace productivity and morale.

However, the big takeaway is this: Uncertainty, when managed right, can be an opportunity for clear-eyed and innovative managers to shine in their organizations. It's a chance to motivate your teams, outperform competitors, and find innovative solutions when no one has all the answers.
