Mindy 'Bean' Schindler: 'Everything is a business'
Don't ask Mindy 'Bean' Schindler which careers can benefit from taking business classes. You're better off asking which careers wouldn't. On second thought, don't ask her that, either. Chances are, she won't list any. "Everything is a business," said Schindler, an instructor in the business management division of Linn-Benton Community College. "College is a business. Your bank is a business. The most important things in your life are a business. Never forget that. If you don't understand at least how the foundations of business work, you're kind of doing yourself a disservice."
Kyle Lopez: From incarceration to a bright future through higher education
“I was really in a hard place,” said Kyle Lopez, “It was my last resort because I just couldn’t get hired with the tattoos that I have on my face, my record, and with no specialization in my skill set.” Lopez was a self-described “delinquent on drugs”—in a gang by the age of 12, juvenile detention by age 15, and the adult incarceration system after that—before turning his life around.
Marc Rose: 'I'm not successful unless you're successful'
Marc Rose was attending freshman orientation at Linn-Benton Community College, listening to the various instructors talk about their departments, when the man in charge of welding took his turn. "John Alvin came out and said, 'You want to be a welder? Follow me.' I thought, I guess I'll do that," Rose recalled.
2022 LBCC Unity Award Winners Announced
The LBCC Unity Celebration Planning Committee is pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 Unity Awards. The first Unity Celebration was held at LBCC in 2009, making this year’s celebration--held on February 25 via Zoom--the thirteenth annual. The Celebration was founded by a group of former LBCC instructors, including Dana Emerson, Robin Havenick, Gary Westford, and Analee Fuentes.
LBCC Board of Education votes unanimously to place bond request on ballot this May to address community need
To address community needs, the Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) Board of Education is asking voters to consider a $16 million general obligation bond in the upcoming May election. The decision was made unanimously at the Board’s public meeting held the evening of February 16th. If passed, the bond would allow the college to support evolving employer needs by continuing to offer high-quality education to students now and in the future.
