Education Award Finalists

ASCEND program (Advancing STEM: Community Engagement through Neuroscience Discovery) was a finalist for a Palm Beach Illustrated Education Award in Innovation in recognition of its cutting-edge approach to introducing youth to the wonders of neuroscience.

Brain Sparks Party

ASCEND hosted a Brain Sparks party at The Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens as part of the mall’s monthly Kids Club program. Children and adults enjoyed hands-on activities that introduced them to neuroscience, including crafts, games and a virtual reality experience.

Marine Debris Sculptures

FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute loaned Manatee Lagoon two of the marine debris sculptures created through a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County called “Keep the Sea Free of Debris.” Through the program, club members collected roughly 1,500 pounds of trash along shorelines in St. Lucie County. This trash was then turned into treasure as bright, sea-themed sculptures. Through Nov. 2, the public can view two of these sculptures, “Squishy” the jellyfish and “Pride” the sea turtle, and learn more about the program at Manatee Lagoon in West Palm Beach.
