Principal's Corner
by Donna Laughlin
What makes Immanuel special? It's the perfect question to ask at the end of our Lutheran Schools Week.

Is it the outstanding academics? Is it the dedicated teachers who support their students in achieving their potential? Is it the close partnership between home and school? Is our researched, well-rounded curriculum? Is it the variety of extracurricular activities led by volunteers and faculty advisors who teach Christian character in addition to sharing an interest with our students?

It's that and so much more. It's the Christ-centered community, the nurturing of our students' spiritual formation and their prayer life. It's the freedom to teach God's Word and how it applies as we live in this complicated world. It's the gift of teaching Law and Gospel side-by-side. It's our emphasis on serving Him by serving His people in our church and school community and beyond. It's the way we honor God in all that we do.

This week was filled with lot's of fun--theme days, extra recess, school-wide bingo, teacher swaps, and a special Chick-fil-A lunch. These are the things that made our Lutheran Schools Week memorable. However, the most important things to remember this week is that Immanuel is special because God has blessed us, and we are His.

Red Letter Challenge
On Sundays during Lent [Sun. at 8 and 10:30 AM] Immanuel is participating in the Red Letter Challenge. Developed by Zach Zehnder, the Red Letter Challenge is designed to help you develop the rhythm of a follower of Jesus—being both a hearer and a doer or what God says. Christians can have good intentions, but intentions without precise aim at Jesus always lead to unintended consequences.

Sun., Mar. 7 - Forgiving Everyone is in desperate need of God’s grace, receiving God’s forgiveness and learning how to forgive others.
Sun., Mar. 14 - Serving Gratitude for what God has done leads you to serve Him. While serving others won’t save you, it just might save someone else.
Sun., Mar. 21 - Giving Learn that Jesus challenges you to be generous. Just as you serve as a response to God, you give because God gave to you.
Sun., Mar. 28 - Going Jesus offers a way of life filled with adventure, mission, and purpose; and He’ll be there right beside you.

Books and other materials are available in the church office. Cost is $15 each.
Through Their Eyes
Pr. Eric Kennaugh and Immanuel member Bill McLane will provide brief Lenten devotional videos that will be available each Wednesday at 1 PM at immanuelbatavia.org/watch. These videos will highlight the events leading up to Christ’s crucifixion through the eyes of those involved.

Wed., Mar. 10 - Pilate and the King Take a closer look at how this man sealed Jesus’ fate by his lack of courage.
Wed., Mar. 17 - Satan and God’s Champion Take this incredible opportunity to witness Jesus’ descent into hell to do battle with the Evil One—the Devil himself.
Wed., Mar. 24 - The Father and His Son Witness the risen Christ entering the gates of heaven to celebrate with the Father His triumph over sin, death, and the power of the Devil.
