Did you miss last week’s webinar on how Alberta’s Budget 2021 impacts municipalities? Don’t worry, you can now watch it on AUMA’s YouTube channel.
We have had strong interest in our analysis materialsas we work to keep members informed about how provincial decisions impact local communities. Over the upcoming weeks and months, AUMA will continue to evaluate how municipalities will be affected by Alberta’s 2021 Budget and will report any new information to members through the Digest newsletter.
The theme of this year’s international event is #ChooseToChallenge, with a focus on calling out gender bias and inequality while also celebrating women’s achievements.
AUMA is following up with the province for more details on program changes and to assess the potential impacts on municipalities and property owners. Changes include cost-sharing arrangements and adding funding limits.
GOOD TO KNOW
The Green Municipal Fund has developed 13 brownfield redevelopment roadmaps for each province and territory in Canada. These roadmaps offer timely, step-by-step guidance in identifying the best solutions for brownfield remediation, linking each step to relevant legislative requirements, and access to potential sources of funding.
Canadians have grown accustomed to the practicality of single-use plastic items. In October 2020, Federal Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson unveiled a list of plastics, including grocery bags, straws, stir sticks, six-pack rings, and cutlery that the government has committed to banning in 2021. Have you wondered about the policy behind the ban? How will our lives change without these items? Attend the upcoming PAAC Alberta webinar The Political Economy of Plastics, moderated by AUMA Vice President Peter Demong, to learn more.
