Construction included in phase two of COVID-19 vaccine rollout

The Ontario government has added “construction including infrastructure” to the second group of essential workers for phase two of Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccination rollout.  According to an Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA) bulletin. The news means all construction workers will have access to a COVID-19 vaccine, when available, and prioritized a month earlier than the general public—most likely in June.

Canadian Construction Association calls for greater investment in sustainable infrastructure to build Canada’s clean economy

The Canadian Construction Association (CCA) has released a research paper, Strength, resilience, sustainability: Canada’s construction sector recommendations on adapting to climate change. The paper highlights the benefits of sustainable and resilient infrastructure that can withstand the effects of climate change and stresses the imperative of investing in sustainable infrastructure, particularly as COVID-19 economic recovery efforts are underway.

On the rebound: Construction growth forecast for 2020s, but steep labour challenge persists

A year ago, gates at construction sites across the country began to swing shut as governments rushed to stem the rise in COVID-19 cases. Hundreds of thousands of staff were laid off as work ground to a temporary halt on many projects, particularly in Ontario and Quebec.

As the recovery takes root, Canada’s construction industry is expected to continue rebounding this year, according to the latest annual report from BuildForce Canada.

Air quality committee to provide solutions about the transmission of COVID-19 through ventilation systems

Although the COVID-19 pandemic will ultimately pass into history, the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute (HRAI) of Canada wants to keep the spotlight on indoor air quality.

Just as the 1919 Spanish Flu epidemic led to changes in the way buildings were designed, the current pandemic could be the catalyst for strengthening code and other requirements pertaining to air quality, says the association’s vice-president of government and stakeholder relations, Martin Luymes.

John Mollenhauer, President & CEO, TCA Elected to CCA Board
Toronto Construction Association (TCA) President & CEO, John Mollenhauer, was elected to the board of directors of the Canadian Construction Association at the national organization’s virtual annual general meeting on March 11, 2021. Mollenhauer will bring the interests of the chief operating officers of the CCA’s partner associations to the attention of the recently reformed 20-member governing body. In addition to his more than 15 years at the helm of (TCA) Canada’s largest construction association, Mollenhauer, brings more than 20 years of direct construction experience to his new position.
