On the road, but still thinking

about OLLI at DU

We all need a break from our routines from time to time. I am on the road for the next couple of weeks and leaving OLLI at DU Adventures in excellent hands. Besides, the way I started with OLLI was facilitating classes about mindful travel and specific travel adventures so I had better stay current!.

We are excited to offer travel opportunities to OLLI at DU members. Next month there is a theatre trip to New York with more than 40 members going to the Big Apple for an in depth and behind the scenes theatre experience. But you don't have to go all the way to NYC, you can enjoy a theatre, opera and music experiences right here in Denver with your friends from OLLI at DU. We hope you will take advantage of the many membership benefits you'll find each week right here in our newsletter.

See you soon!

Bruce

We are at once happy and sad to announce the retirement of our OLLI at DU Central Campus Manager, John Baumgartner. John brought a wealth of experience to us and was truly the epitome of a consummate leader; one who could lead groups of volunteers to develop a program of interest to our many members. John's last day will be Friday, November 10. Please join us in wishing John many happy years on the golf course, visiting with family, and traveling! See John's message to OLLI below:

OLLI has been a very important part of my life, first as a member, then as a facilitator, and over the last six years the Manager of the Central Campus. I have really enjoyed the challenges and camaraderie and can truly say it has been a labor of love. During my tenure we have had changes in Executive Directors, two years of pandemic which necessitated an online approach, changes in staff, and most recently a change in operational systems. Through all these changes I am proud to say that OLLI at DU has survived and thrived due to all the outstanding participation from our members, many active volunteers and the diligence of our staff and leadership. I can honestly say that OLLI at DU has never looked brighter and in better hands.

There is no better time for me to leave my management responsibilities to some very competent talent. Mary Ann Laurich, my current assistant, applied and has been selected as the next Central Campus Manager and will more than aptly take my place. Mary Ann came to us this summer from her similar responsibilities at the Academy, another premier life learning program which recently closed. In that regard she had many of the same responsibilities, including working with our new operating system, Campus CE, which was the same system used at the Academy. Of equal importance is her very favorable support by those Academy facilitators and members, many of whom are now active with OLLI at DU. And to cap it off there is no nicer person to bring to the OLLI team.

I will be giving up my official responsibilities at the end of the fall term although I do plan to be an active member of OLLI. I sincerely thank all the members and volunteers that I have had the pleasure to know and work with over the years. OLLI at Du is in good hands!
