‘Tell the truth’: Eddie Glaude speaks on racism at CRSP event
Glaude was the keynote speaker at the event, “For Such a Time as This: Acknowledging and Leveraging African American Resilience, Fortitude, and Vibrancy for Local and National Change.” The event is part of the speaker series run by Pitt’s Center on Race and Social Problems in partnership with the African American Strategic Partnership. Read more in the Pitt News.
PhD candidate abstract accepted at APHA annual conference
Doctoral candidate Laurenia Mangum's abstract, Condom use behaviors and associations of sexual communication efficacy and condom discussions among young black women in the United States., was accepted as part of American Public Health Association's 2021 Annual Meeting and Expo, Oct. 24-27 in Denver, CO.
PhD candidate abstract accepted for oral presentation at APHA annual conference
PhD candidate, Serwaa S. Omowale's, LMSW abstract, A longitudinal analysis of stress during the covid-19 pandemic in a pregnant and postpartum population (Postpartum Mothers Mobile Study; PI: Dr. Dara D. Mendez) was accepted for an oral presentation at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting, Oct. 24-27 in Denver, CO. 
Alumna named refugee director
Jewish Family and Community Services announced Thursday that MSW alumna Ivonne Smith-Tapia will become the new director of refugee and immigrant services. Currently, Smith-Tapia leads the All for All Coalition, a network that helps refugees and immigrants in the region, and is a board member of the Casa San Jose, which supports the region’s Latino population. Obituary: Glendalee (Brink) Button
Glendalee Brink Button, 80, passed peacefully away Monday (May 31) in her home with several of her children by her side. 

Glendalee graduated from Bloomsburg High School and completed her Masters in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh as a returning adult. Read more.
