With two months remaining in 2021, we need your help. Our neighbors in need will rely on us to provide food and other basic necessities for their families this winter. The only way we will be able to do so is if we all continue to work together.

The good news is, we have several upcoming opportunities to get involved! Keep an eye out the next few weeks as we prepare for our holiday food distribution, toy drive, and the 18th Annual Polar Bear Plunge! (That’s right…it’s almost time to get freezin’ for a local reason!)

It is without a doubt that food pantries have the greatest impact when their community is involved. We are so grateful for our Southampton community and the unwavering support we receive from each and every one of you.

Just this month...

  • Rogers Memorial Library collected and donated 30 bags of non-perishable food items
  • Bridge Lane Farm donated nearly 500 pounds of apples and pears
  • Hamptons Marathon donated bagels, bananas, and water
  • Paul Rogers donated watermelons
  • Corcoran Cares picked and donated local apples
  • Long Island Cares donated boxes of fresh produce through Harvest New York and local chef/owner Delaney Oser of Thyme and Again, the Kiwanis Club, Boy Scouts Troop 58, and Argento Southampton used the vegetables to cook homemade soup for our food pantry customers

Witnessing our community come together for the greater good is nothing short of inspiring. Thank you to our friends who make our work possible!

Our Assistance Program works incredibly hard to fill in the gaps on a range of issues and provides assistance that is difficult to find elsewhere. Here are but a few examples in October that demonstrate the impact this program makes on our community:

  • Purchased Halloween costumes for local students
  • Rented a U-Haul truck to help a family move
  • Purchased oil deliveries for a few seniors and worked with Southampton Town to register them for Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
  • Dropped off food and grocery store gift cards for a family living in temporary housing
  • Arranged for a ride to a doctor's appointment for a local senior
  • Paid a month's rent for a senior citizen who is recovering from heart surgery and is unable to work
  • Worked with PSEG to forgive and lower an electric bill for a low-income senior
  • Paid a property tax bill for a senior citizen
  • Purchased a cord of wood for a family that depends on wood to heat their home
  • Helped a single mother to get fingerprinted in order to start working
  • Ordered work boots and sweatshirts for a group of farm migrant workers
  • Purchased shoes and clothing for a family that took in two more kids from their alcoholic mother

To support this service...
This month, the Southampton Elementary School Community Service Club packed Halloween gift bags for our food pantry customers.

In addition, we purchased teddy bears for the SES Student Council Pink Teddy Bear Fundraiser (pictured here) to support the Coalition for Women's Cancers/Lucia's Angels at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.
We welcomed 30 students from Southampton High School (pictured here) to volunteer for their day of service. The students packed 100 bags of fresh produce, made 200 Halloween gift bags for our families, prepared 500 stars for our Holiday Toy Drive, and more!

We also worked with SHS to set up a Satellite Food Pantry at the school for students and families who need food assistance.
A big thank you to the students and faculty at Southampton Schools for their continued support!

4. How does one register for the food pantry?
One can register ahead by calling our office (631-283-6415) to speak with our bilingual staff. New customers are welcome to visit during food pantry hours- Wednesdays and Fridays from 10AM-12PM. Upon arrival, they will be asked to fill out a registration form and provide valid identification. This form is used solely for reporting numbers to the food bank so we receive enough food to feed our customers.
The holidays are a busy time for us, but we are confident that together, we will continue to provide for our most vulnerable community members. Thank you for supporting our mission.

Warmest regards,
