Pitt School of Social Work Weekly E-blast
Kim and Larry Davis Student Fund
The Pitt Social Work community mourned the passing of Dean Emeritus Larry Davis earlier this year. In remembrance of Dean Davis’s many contributions to the School and social work profession, we are pleased to join the School’s Board of Visitors and University leadership in a memorial fundraising effort.

Eckstrom part of Year of Data and Society project
Stephanie Eckstrom, Program Coordinator of the Pitt-Bradford MSW Program, is part of a team for the project: "Infusing Data Science into the Health Humanities and the Humanities into the Data Sciences: Ethical Use, Social Implications, and Educational Impact." This award will support several virtual and in-person events featuring speakers who are applying data-informed research to the health humanities, advancing narrative as data in health research and policy, and exploring the ethics and social implications of technologies. The project team includes: Michael Deem (Public Health/Human Genetics), Bridget Keown (Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program), Jane Liebschutz (Department of Medicine), Kathy Mayle (Community College of Allegheny County), Jonathan Perlman (Palliative and Supportive Institute ), and Susan Wieczorek (Department of Communication, Pitt- Johnstown. Goodkind pens op-ed
Associate Professor Sara Goodkind, along with co-author Leslie Poston, published an op-ed in the Pittsburgh Tribune Review about how to support front-line healthcare workers. Read here.
Jones featured in Grand Challenges
Assistant Professor Nev Jones' work on homelessness and mental illness with the Banyan Academy, located in India, is featured in the new #Up4theChallenge e-newsletter.
PhD student part of winning Case Competition team

Doctoral candidate Dashawna Fussell-Ware (pictured left) accepted her 2021 Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity (CRECD) award at the Council on Social Work Education Annual Program Meeting in Orlando, FL on November 6th. Read more.

 Year of Data and Society Funding Opportunity
Proposals are invited for the December 1 deadline of the Year of Data and Society Funding Opportunity.
The Year of Data and Society Funding Opportunity supports programs, events, curriculum development, and other possibilities connected to the theme of data and society. Students (graduate and undergraduate), faculty, and staff at all University of Pittsburgh campuses are invited to apply. Descriptions of projects that received funding in the first round are available on the Year of Data and Society website.
