Dear Member, Stakeholder, Supporter,

With the news last week that Ontario's favourite groundhog, Wiarton Willie had predicted an early Spring we are hopeful that this will assist our contractors in the repair and #raisingtheroof of the Pickering Soccer Centre. This week saw the removal of the revolving door unit for some extensive repairs, as well as the preparation of repairs in two main locations on the south side of the dome. Snow and ice removal will continue next week with the expectation for the dome to be partially inflated and assessed toward the end of the week. Being without a home has meant our programs have changed a little for now and we appreciate the support of neighboring facilities to find time for us.

While this weekend promises to be a very chilly one, we are looking towards the summer season with plenty of sunshine, fresh green grass, and lots of soccer. Coming next week our program registration will open up on the SportsEngine platform for the Outdoor 2022 season at all age groups and levels. Please look out for a direct email and make sure you take advantage of our Early Bird Rates on the recreational side and Easy Pay plan on the competitive side. We're keeping our program structures, schedules and pricing as similar as possible to what you saw in 2021. We hope this will help make a Return to Play post-pandemic as smooth as possible.

Outdoor 2021 was a great success and Pickering FC drew a lot of admirers from inside and outside the soccer community for the way we returned to the field. 2022 will be our year to raise that bar even higher and we can't wait to have you as part of the team.
As a reminder, all sport facilities require a digital QR code to be presented to show their vaccinated status. Paper copies are no longer accepted as directed by the Provincial Government. Accepted medical exemptions will be reflected in the QR code. When facility staff scan each QR code it will display a green check mark or a red 'x' mark. Facility staff are not permitted to interpret or ignore the reading on their device.

With summer just around the corner, registration will open up very soon for all Outdoor Recreational programs. Check your email for program details and feel free to contact program staff for further information.

We're happy to assist you.
Pickering FC would like to welcome
Maite Gutierrez-Romero to the Club.
Maite was appointed our first ever Sport Development Coordinator in December 2021 and has been busy behind the scenes connecting with local community groups and daycares.

Thanks to funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Maite will be working with community organizations in the region to help promote physical literacy in children and to develop more multi-sport activities. This grant follows on from our 2020 grant that enabled us to investigate the impact our club has in the community and those areas of society that may not be well connected to sport.

To kick things off Maite is connecting with day cares in the area to deliver a FREE 8 week multi-sport program with qualified coaches. We know the pandemic has hit physical activity levels hard and this is one small way we can help increase activity and health while having a lot of fun at the same time.

If you're a parent with a child at daycare or you run a daycare then contact Maite HERE for more details and to book your daycare slot

Participation is on a volunteer basis. They are looking for 3 older adults (aged 55+) to be featured in the video/poster and social media elements of the campaign. Those interested can contact Linnea Veloce at linnea.veloce@durham.ca or 289-928-3995 by February 7

We remember Kyra Maggi
We received news this week that one of our original All Abilities athletes Kyra Maggi has passed away. Our sympathies go out to Kyra's family and all of those touched by her life. We are honoured that Kyra was a part of our Alll Abilities roots and growth.

Friends of the family have set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for a commemorative bench in her honour. Donations can be made HERE.

Our first PFC All Abilities book is now available!

Author and illustrator Anusha Broekhuyse joined us as a volunteer at the height of the pandemic, assisting with our virtual soccer programming. She then brought her love of our program to the field and joined us this summer as an All Abilities Coach.

We uncovered Anusha's amazing artistic talent which lead her to writing "Logan Learns to Play". She used her visual art skills to illustrate the enjoyment, fears, and challenges that youth living with disabilities face on a daily basis and hopes that this book will help inspire more children living with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to participate in sports.

Anusha is donating ALL proceeds of book purchases back to our All Abilities Program. "Logan Learns to Play" can be purchased from the front desk at the Pickering Soccer Centre for $15.00. You may also click the link below to purchase the book directly through Amazon.

The Covid Pandemic has had a huge impact on the retention of referees and attracting new referees.  In 2021 the Pickering FC had 60 less active match officials than in 2019, the last full season of outdoor recreational soccer.  The Club has a strong mentor program to assist the 1st and 2nd year match officials become comfortable in their role as a match official and help them become the best that they want to be.
