Christopher Strain, Ph.D., professor of History & American Studies, Chair of Humanities & Social Sciences, Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College was recently interviewed for the “Teaching Hard History” podcast, hosted by Hasan Jeffries, Ph.D., Ohio State University and developed by the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Tolerance program, founded in 1991 to prevent the growth of hate. Dr. Strain discussed the themes raised in a chapter he contributed to a book edited by Dr. Jeffries called Understanding and Teaching the Civil Rights Movement (Madison: University of Wisconsin Press, 2019).
 
Ernest “Andy” Brewer, Ed.D. has been promoted to assistant dean for School Engagement. Dr. Brewer will supervise the Office of Accreditation, Assessment and Analytics, become the point person for programs in schools and for student teaching, continue to coordinate FIAT, and will be administrator for the Jupiter campus. Dr. Brewer was previously the associate director of Academic Support Services and FIAT coordinator in the Department of Teaching and Learning. He has been on the Jupiter campus since 2006.

Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College Dean Justin Perry, Ph.D., participated in a panel discussion on "Diversity and Inclusion in Schools," during Palm Beach Illustrated's Education Awards. Congrats to FAU Alumnus Javente Edmonds for being awarded, "Outstanding Academic Program," for Suits for Seniors.

Mental Health Summit

Nearly 400 FAU faculty and staff turned out for FAU’s Mental Health Summit sponsored by the Provost's Office. Participants learned about mental health issues faced by FAU students and how to provide support to students and colleagues.
