Jewish Quote of the Week

As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us; as we remember them.

May 19, 2023

Dear New York Metro Club President:

I am writing to request a timely matter. I am currently compiling a list of all our club members who have passed away since 2019. I am hoping that you can provide me with that list of your men’s club member names who died.

The purpose of the list is to honor and remember those who have been a part of the FJMC through your club at the upcoming FJMC Convention. There will be a special Memorial Service at Convention where all those who passed will be mentioned at this service. In addition, these men will be listed in the official Convention Journal. It is important to recognize and pay tribute to those who have contributed to your club's history, legacy and the FJMC.

Please know that the FJMC is approaching this with utmost respect and sensitivity. I assure you that the information you provide will only be used for the purposes of the Memorial Service list.

Please email me at aaltman@fjmc.org with your list by the deadline of June 12th.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Aaron Altman

Heidi and I attended the NLS in Washington, DC from April 30th to May 2nd 2023.

We along with the leadership of the Anti-Defamation League, support them in their mission. This mission is “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and secure justice and fair treatment to all.” ADL is founded with the clear understanding the fight against one form of prejudice cannot succeed, without battling prejudice in all forms.

We are alarmed by the record levels of antisemitic incidents and attitudes. The rise of extremism and hate speech coursing through online spaces. We strongly support the fight against antisemitism, bigotry, and hate. The threats include those directed at Jewish institutions, delegitimizing Israel, on campuses and in board rooms, and violence in actions and words towards marginalized groups.

Israel didn’t win Eurovision, but it did win the ‘rest of the world’

(Times of Israel) — Israel may have come in third place at the 2023 Eurovision in Liverpool on Saturday night, but it received the clear backing of fans from outside of Europe. For the first time this year, fans in countries that do not participate in the competition were able to cast their votes. And Israel won the most support from those voting in the “rest of the world,” whose votes were tallied together and entered with the weight of an additional country...

End Jew Hatred Protest in NYC, held in front of the public library. (End Jew Hatred) (photo credit: END JEW HATRED)

The End Jew Hatred Movement is spreading across the country — and sparking controversy

(Jerusalem Post) — Last month, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Jewish Democrat, proclaimed April 29 “End Jew Hatred Day,” citing “an urgent need to act against antisemitism in Colorado and across the country.” Similar proclamations came from New York Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican, and dozens of other elected officials nationwide.  But in the New York City Council, an identical effort proved controversial. While the overwhelmingly Democratic council approved April 29 as End Jew Hatred Day annually, six council members either abstained from or voted against what organizers had intended to be an unanimous decision...
