With more information than ever before, we know you’ll find the
answers to most of your questions on our website.
Dear Parent,

Please share this week’s update with your child.

We hope your family have been aware of the great work Ontario Soccer rolled out this week starting on Tuesday with a cover story in the Toronto Sun followed by a social media campaign and a CBC Interview (Thursday) focused on the hidden pandemic of children’s mental health under lockdown. Pickering FC are part of a 17 Club movement bringing these issues to the table and ensuring our leaders advocate for us. We know that being active and staying connected with friends in a safe way is an important part of our return to normal.

Grassroots Program Director Hollie Babut wanted to share this personal note with our players;
Hey players, yes you! It might seem like ages ago since we were all out on the field together doing what we love to do, and you’re absolutely right. Its been days, weeks, months, and for some of you a whole year since we were last able to see each other. Say it with me “I MISS SOCCER!” As much as I would love to be out on the field with you, I can say with certainty that we will come back stronger than ever before. I am so proud of who you all are and the power of your mind to get through this one day at a time. I want you to believe that we will get through this together because that’s what this club is all about; a family, a place to call home, teammates you consider best friends, coaches who you look up to, fields to help you escape your stressors, and so much more. In the days ahead remember to be kind to yourself, be patient and proud of who you are, and if there’s ever a day where you aren’t, we will be here for YOU.
For our PFC players we want them to know we’re here for them. It’s often stated that the three most influential adults in a player’s life are their parents, their teacher and their coach. The efforts of our coaching staff to stay connected have been monumental during this time and we appreciate their efforts.

Earlier in the pandemic PFC Coaches joined an international campaign that included the completion of free suicide awareness training and it really resonated with them; however we are trained soccer professionals and sometimes that isn’t enough - a player may find themselves in greater distress and need to seek more professional support.
If you are in need of help or just want to talk, we encourage you to make use of these resources;
  1. The BRAINS Project on Instagram has lots of great resources to help. Eva DiNallo who runs the project has started working with some of our youth teams through group webinar sessions.
  2. Canadian Mental Health Association-Durham Chapter can be reached at  1-844-436-8760 or CMHA@cmhadurham.org
  3. The Kids Help Phone is nationally recognised and offers a 24-7 trained counsellor who can be reached at 1-800-668-6868

1. My son/daughter wants to play with a friend, is this possible?
Yes, of course! It is important to create the best possible experience for all players. Please email admin-rec@pickeringfc.ca to request a Play with Request form that will need to be submitted to manage any request.

2. What equipment will I need to purchase for my child?
Shin pads and soccer shoes. The registration fee for all players includes a jersey, shorts and socks. For players U3 to U12 a ball is included in the registration fee.

3. What are the plans for 2021 outdoor recreational? Is registration open?
We are planning and working towards a 2021 Outdoor Season subject to the Covid guidelines that we all must follow.
We had OVER 75 players and coaches attend the April 20th Match Officials Education session that focused on Game Management. It was a great opportunity to have the 3 groups in the same session as it helped provide some insight on what a Match Official does during the game so it is played safely and fairly.

Our next session is on Tuesday, May 18, topic is TBD
Ontario Soccer is hosting its 2021 Match Official Clinics online. There is space available in these clinics and for more information on how to register please CLICK HERE.

There are user guides for Students to review to help with the registration process and the expectations of the clinics. When registering you will be asked to identify a club so please remember to enter Pickering FC! Once you register we will add you to our contact list to keep in touch with you regarding PFC Match Official Education Sessions and updates on the 2021 Outdoor season.

The online clinics end on May 27th, so if you are interested you will need to start the clinic no later than May 15th in order to have enough time to complete the modules before attending the mandatory webinar and writing the exam.
