ADVOCACY UPDATES
AUMA’s Resolution Policy requires municipalities to find a supporting municipality to either second or co-sponsor a resolution before it can be submitted (by the June 30 deadline) for consideration at AUMA’s Convention in November.

On December 9, 2020, the Provincial government passed the Ensuring Safety and Cutting Red Tape Act, 2020, which contained various and substantial changes to, among other things, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Workers Compensation Act

The Alberta Seniors & Community Housing Association (ASCHA) will be hosting a series of webinars on Municipal Tools to Support Affordable Housing. Municipal leaders will hear about funding opportunities, how to grow affordable housing, and how to fully benefit from the funding opportunities of the National Housing Strategy, including the soon-to-be-launched Getting Started round of the Housing Supply Challenge.

Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) is hosting an information session for rural communities (with populations under 15,000), entitled “Coffee with Dr. Verna Yiu”, on May 19, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. During the session, Dr. Verna Yiu (President and CEO of Alberta Health Services) and her team will share AHS’ 10-year vision and key priorities for health care in rural Alberta. The Alberta Rabies Program is hosting a webinar on May 26, 2021, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The webinar will provide helpful information for bylaw enforcement officers in animal control and those whose jobs expose them to the risk of animal bites. The session will feature Dr. Hussein Keshwani, the provincial public health veterinarian, and Registered Veterinary Technicians, Ashley Stockton-Rice and Korina Smith, from Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is updating the National Waste Characterization Study in order to develop information on the current composition of waste collected & sent to landfills. ECCC is kindly asking municipalities that have recently conducted a waste characterization study to share their data. Please contact ec.ges-dechets-ghg-waste.ec@canada.ca for more information.
Applying for funding to electric vehicles is easy.
Our process is easy so you can start saving sooner. Submit an expression of interest, apply and then buy electric - it's that easy! The Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program provides funding for a variety of electric vehicles, such as electric ice re-surfacers, ATVs, passenger vehicles and more. 

The Town of Okotoks received funding through Electric Vehicles for Municipalities for their new electric ATV. Now their enforcement team can get to bike lanes, forest trails and places that they couldn't reach before, keeping the community safe.
