Court 1 Tennis
What's all that racquet on Milan Rd?
After taking a beating from forty years of running, jumping, and sporting, the former Baywinds Athletic facility at 5507 Milan Road, Sandusky was in desperate need of TLC and awaiting the right person to save it. Fortunately, new owner Brad Lynch, had many reasons to invest a lot of love in the 60,000 sq. ft.

It was the place his parents played tennis, introducing Brad to the love of the game as a child. It was the place Brad got his first professional experience as a tennis coach out of college. It was also the place Brad met his wife, Kula Hoty Lynch, a business partner in the redevelopment project. Now, it is the place his daughter can coach and the Court 1 staff team can build the same life lessons Brad learned in the next generation of tennis lovers.

The transformed Court 1 Tennis boasts six indoor courts with state-of-the-art surfaces, lighting, and equipment – making its capabilities unique in north central Ohio between clubs in Cleveland, Toledo, and Columbus. Brad recognizes it is this kind of year-round, temperature controlled, sophisticated facility that is needed to build long term interest in the sport in our region.

Fast Facts
  • $1M+ capital investment brings this 40-year old athletic facility back to life
  • Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the US - adding 111 locations for play per month
  • 13th century Louis X of France is credited with the first indoor tennis court as a keen player of jeu de paume ("game of the palm" which evolved into tennis)
  • With 36 years of teaching experience, the Court 1 team is ready to assist every play level
A comprehensive overhaul was needed to bring this vision to life; and, after years of dreaming, circumstances aligned. Brad partnered with Hoty Enterprises to redevelop the dilapidated facility at 5507 Milan Rd. 40,000 square feet are now dedicated to Court 1 Tennis with every square inch transformed, from roofing and mechanics to locker rooms, to lobbies, to much improved courts. The remaining 20,000 square feet of the facility and adjacent land with State Route 2 visibility can be made available to an additional commercial tenant. (More information.)

Court 1 re-opened doors last month to former members shocked by the transformation, but also to new members taking advantage of growing junior programs and to pickleball enthusiasts. With a professional coaching staff and improved infrastructure, Court 1 expects leagues, individual coaching, and clinics to grow with each skill and age level in the years to come.

This transformative investment bolsters Erie County’s destination economy and makes space for a lifelong hobby for residents to enjoy.
