Huguley and team win Pitt Innovation Challenge
Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion James Huguley and his team won the $115,000 Pitt Innovation Challenge for their project Parenting While Black: Intergenerational Innovation, a program that provides African American parents with tools to promote positive racial socialization, mental health, and academic achievement for their adolescents. Copeland part of winning PInCH competition team
Professor Valire Copeland (Co-I) and a team of interdisciplinary collaborators from Nursing (Margaret Rosenzweig, PI), Medicine (Robert Arnold, Adam Brufsky, Co-Is), UPMC (Tansiha Bowman, Vanessa Palmer, Co-Is) and the International End of Life Doula Association (Jamie Eaddy, Co-I) have received $50,000 in funding for their project titled "DOULA-AC - Reimagined palliative care for the Black community." PhD Student presents work on Black fathers' involvement in early childhood development
VanHook will present The Role of Black Fathers in the Prevention of Toxic Stress at the American Public Health Association's Annual Conference (October 24th).
VanHook's collaborator, UPMC Psychiatry's Paula Powe will present Black Fathers' Knowledge and Attitudes About Toxic Stress at the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry's Annual Meeting.

United Way Donor Profile: Rachelle Haynik
From October 20 – November 20, Pitt Social Work is running its internal United Way campaign to try to reach our school-wide goal of $12,000 in pledged donations to the United Way. We are profiling a handful of Social Work staff and faculty who supported area organizations through United Way last year to inspire our Pitt SW community to give generously this year and help us meet our goal.
