U.S. Department of Transportation Announces $2.8 Million in Funding for new Transportation Centers at Texas Southern University |
|
Texas Southern University’s College of Science, Engineering and Technology (COSET) earned three grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation totaling nearly $3 million for transportation infrastructure research over the next five years.
The grants are part of an $87 million national award from the U.S. Department of Transportation to 34 University Transportation Centers (UTC) to advance research and education programs that address critical transportation challenges facing our nation. The UTCs, which are located throughout the United States, conduct research that directly supports the priorities of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The participating universities and teams are a critical part of our national transportation strategy.

TIAA President and CEO Thasunda Brown Duckett Speaks to Students |

Texas Southern University recently hosted Thasunda Brown Duckett, President and CEO of TIAA.
Brown Duckett is one of only two African American women currently leading Fortune 500 companies.
During her visit to campus, she met with staff, administration, and students. She spoke to students in a conversation, moderated by Mr. Texas Southern University Taylor Getwood. Brown Duckett shared her journey through college to corporate America and to President and CEO of a Fortune 100 corporation. She also gave the students advice on how to maximize their opportunities as they matriculate through TSU.

Tiger Ball Returns April 29 |
|
Join the celebration with the TSU Foundation Board of Trustees, Board of Regents, and President Lesia L. Crumpton-Young on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
The Tiger Ball is the largest single fundraiser to support scholarships and transformation at TSU.
Sponsorship opportunities remain available. There is also a limited number of $3,000 tables that remains available.

Division of Research and Innovation Senior Associate Vice President Dr. Omonike Olaleye Named American Council on Education Fellow |
|
Texas Southern University’s Senior Associate Vice President for Research and Innovation and Professor of Pharmacology Dr. Omonike Olaleye has been named an American Council on Education Fellow (ACE).
The ACE Fellows Program strengthens institutions in American higher education by identifying and preparing faculty, staff and administrators for senior positions in college and university leadership through its distinctive and intensive cohort-based mentorship model.

Spring Career Fair is a Success
More than 150 employers attend career fair to recruit TSU students

The Texas Southern University Spring Career Fair took place on February 24 at the TSU Recreation Center.
More than 500 students met with the 150 employers who were on campus to recruit students for career opportunities. Those employers were looking for students of all disciplines. The fair was also open to alumni.

KPRC Features Stories by School of Communication Students for Black History Month |
|
Texas Southern University School of Communication student journalists are telling the under-told stories of Houston's Black community on KPRC2 and KTSU2 in February.
This groundbreaking project is being led by SOC's assistant dean Serbino Sandifer-Walker and KPRC2's director of digital enterprise content Dawn Campbell. SOC Professor Art Murray and KPRC2's digital team are also helping to supervise the students.
Five student journalists from the KTSU2 digital team have reported, wrote, filmed, and edited the stories. They aired on KPRC2's noon broadcast throughout February and were showcased on the NBC affiliate's website and social media platforms.
The students are Bradley Clark, Mario Dunham, Zoria Goodley, Karina Hollingsworth, and Amber Land.

Three TSU students selected for Goldman Sachs Program |
|
Three Texas Southern University students have been chosen to participate in the Goldman Sachs Market Madness: HBCU Possibilities Program.
Feria Nji, Hailey Butler, and Mmesoma Ezeudu will participate in an immersive summer-long crash course in key financial concepts.
The global investment banking, securities and investment management firm launched year three of the program this semester as a cornerstone of its $25 million, five-year commitment to Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Texas Southern University Celebrates Women's History Month |

During March, Texas Southern University commemorates Women's History Month, as we remember and uplift the contributions of countless women who have fought tirelessly and courageously for equality, justice, and opportunity in our nation.
The university will highlight women who are making a difference at TSU, in the city of Houston, and beyond on all social media platforms and KTSU 90.9 FM.
The Women's History Month Convocation will take place on Monday, March 6 at 11:45 a.m. The speaker will be TSU alumna and Houston City Councilmember Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz.

SGA Hosting Crucial Conversations Series |
|
The Texas Southern University Student Government Association is hosting a series of Crucial Conversations. The series will cover topics ranging from life after college to the college experience. There will also be a women's empowerment brunch during the series.
The conversations will take place throughout the month of March and culminate on April 13 with a conversation about mental health.

Tiger Nation is Set for TSU Day at the Capital |
|
Tiger Nation heads to Austin for TSU Day at the Capital on Tuesday, March 7. This is an opportunity for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters of the University to advocate on TSU's behalf with legislators face-to-face.
TSU has submitted a $1 billion Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR) to the legislature to support: Academic Centers of Excellence, a Research Amplification Fund, the College of Transdisciplinary Studies, Academic and Student Resource Initiative, Mental Health Institute, and Campus Health and Safety programs.
President Lesia L. Crumpton-Young appeared before the Senate Finance Committee earlier this month to champion this cause. You can watch her testimony here (TSU's portion begins at the 2:09 mark).

The award-winning Freeman Honors is a semi-annual newsletter of the Thomas F. Freeman Honors College at Texas Southern University. It connects the students, faculty, and office personnel of the College with its many benefactors and partners in education within the University.

TSU School of Communication Alumna Starts Dream Career as News Reporter |
|
TSU alumna Karina Hollingsworth started her dream career in February. She is the newest multimedia journalist at KTXS News in Abilene.
Hollingsworth graduated from the School of Communication in 2021 with a degree in broadcast journalism. She is currently pursuing a master's degree.

Stefann Robinson to Receive SWAC Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award |
|
Texas Southern University Operations Director/Marketing and Promotions Manager Harlan Stefann Robinson has been named a recipient of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award.
Robinson, who has been associated with the SWAC for more than 40-plus years as a student and administrator, has been with Texas Southern since 2008 in addition to stints at Prairie View A&M and Southern University. A two-time graduate of Alcorn State, Robinson has worn many hats throughout his career as a business manager, sports information director, marketing and promotions manager and athletic operations manager. At TSU, Robinson is responsible for the development and execution of sponsorships, ticketing, event operations, travel operations and facility management.

5 Track & Field Student-Athletes Earn 2023 SWAC Indoor Track & Field All-SWAC Honors |
|
The Southwestern Athletic Conference recognized its 2023 All-SWAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field team and individual award winners. The all-conference honors were awarded to the top two finishers per individual event at the 2023 SWAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships.
On the men's side Texas Southern's Jose Gonzalez was named Most Outstanding Track Performer.

VP Kevin Granger Receives Commemorative Final Four basketball |
|
TSU VP of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Kevin Granger received a commemorative 2023 Final Four Basketball this week as part of the Final Four Houston Local Organizing Committee. The City of Houston will host this year’s final four, and TSU's H&PE Arena will be a host site.
H&PE Arena will also be the site of the HBCU All-Star Game on Sunday, April 2. The game will be televised nationally on CBS.
