Future Teachers to Introduce Computer Science Foundations to K-12 Students
The University of South Alabama College of Education and Professional Studies has been awarded a National Science Foundation grant for nearly $300,000, which will fund a project to help 175 future elementary school teachers improve their subject knowledge, computational thinking and design thinking skills. South students will learn how to integrate computer science in their K-12 subjects. A multidisciplinary team of faculty will support the project, and Dr. Shenghua Zha (pictured above), assistant professor in the department of counseling and instructional sciences, is the principal investigator of the three-year grant.
Extra Yard for Teachers Week Winners Honored
The USA College of Education and Professional Studies and the South Alabama Athletics Department recently partnered with the College Football Playoff Foundation to celebrate teachers in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. The top three Extra Yard for Teachers Classroom Project Contest winners were featured at the Jags vs Alcorn State football game at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
College Recognized for Leadership in Continuous Improvement
The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation recently announced the USA College of Education and Professional Studies as a recipient of the 2021 Frank Murray Leadership Recognition for Continuous Improvement. South is the first university in Alabama with an educator preparation program to receive the award.
FeAunte’ Preyear Named Title IX Coordinator
FeAunte’ Preyear, who earned a master's in educational leadership for higher education administration from the College of Education and Professional Studies, has been promoted to Coordinator of Title IX in the division of Student Affairs at the University of South Alabama. 
Hospitality Grad Lands Job in Private Aviation
Aaron White, a College of Education and Professional Studies hospitality and tourism management graduate, believes in the power of relationships, conversations and connections that lead to career opportunities. The Hoover, Ala., native, recently landed a job as a research analyst with AirplaneIQ, a private aviation company based in Sarasota, Fla.
Maulding Green’s Leadership Book Makes Selective List in the School Administrator
Dr. Wanda Maulding Green’s co-authored second edition of the book “The Soft Skills of Leadership - Navigating with Confidence and Humility” made the highly selective reading list in the September 2021 edition of the School Administrator. Maulding Green serves as an associate professor of educational leadership at the College of Educational and Professional Studies.
Ard Receives Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award
Dr. Bri Ard, who earned a Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Development from the College of Educational and Professional Studies, received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program Award for 2021-2022. Ard serves as Director of International Education and Study Abroad at the University of South Alabama. The Fulbright Program is considered the largest and most prestigious educational exchange program.
