4/3,10 AM EDT: Ashutosh Sharma – The Prana-Vidya Approach to Hatha Yoga practice
|
Ashutosh Sharma: Pandit Ashutosh Sharma is an expert hatha yoga instructor, who can teach both beginners and advanced students. From an early age, he studied asanas, pranayama, and subtle-body relaxation techniques. In 1992, he met Swami Rama, who sent him to Swami Veda Bharati to learn meditation and to intensify his practices. Since 1996, he has been travelling and teaching worldwide. He serves as a senior Hatha Instructor for the Himalayan Yoga Tradition - Teacher Training Program (HYT-TTP) and has trained hundreds of teachers all over the world in the Prana Vidya Hatha Yoga Style of the Himalayan Tradition
The process of Hatha Yoga in the Himalayan Tradition is called Prana-Vidya, as one’s concentration is not only on positioning the body correctly, but also on experiencing what is happening within and how the prana body expresses itself.
In this session, Ashu will explore: the philosophy of Ha-Tha yoga, what is Asana, how the Prana-Vidya approach will guide your hatha yoga practice to a meditative state (a quiet, content, and joyful mind), and how to create an integrated session in the Himalayan Yoga Tradition.

4/9, 7 PM EDT: Pierre Lefebvre (Pt. Priyadarshana) – Important texts of the Tradition
|
Pierre Lefebvre, M.A., E-RYT-500, YACEP, Yogacharya FFY: his passion for yoga brought Pierre to India in 2005, where he joined the Gurukulam at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama. He studied with Swami Veda Bharati and many other teachers of the Himalayan Yoga Tradition for over fifteen years. He is now travelling throughout the world sharing the teachings of the Tradition. Pierre, certified by both the Fédération Francophone de Yoga and Yoga Alliance, is a member of AHYMSIN’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors, as well as the HYT-TTP Manager. In 2014, Swami Veda granted him the title of pandit, naming him Priyadarshana.
Indian philosophies are an amazingly wide subject and their essence is contained in a vast body of classical texts. By studying some of these texts, one can see Yoga as a unifying model providing the power to understand the discoveries of modern science and also the world’s great religions and spiritual paths.
In this session, Pierre will navigate through this great ocean and give a brief overview of the teachings found in some of the texts most often referred to in the Himalayan Yoga Tradition. He will discuss the Vedic and Upanishadic literature, as well as the main texts on Yoga Philosophy.

4/10,10 AM EDT: Stoma Parker – Swami Rama’s principles of Yoga Psychology

Stephen (Stoma) Parker Psy. D., ERYT-500: Stoma is a Sanskrit scholar and a leading teacher of yoga and meditation under Swami Ritavan. Stoma has lectured throughout the world on yoga and he serves as a senior Instructor for the Himalayan Yoga Tradition - Teacher Training Program (HYT-TTP).
Swami Rama's principles of yoga psychology focus on looking at how the mind functions and how to have a constructive dialogue with the mind.
In this session, Stoma, will examine ways to observe: one's thoughts, the relationship of thoughts to emotions, the relationship of instinctive desires to our emotions, and the bondage created in our pursuit of pleasure.
He will also discuss achieving a joyful mind through the mindful practice of austerity. Enjoyment, through concentration, offers both a greater enjoyment of life and the promise of liberation from the bondage of pleasure.
