Beacon of Hope

To usher in a new era of neuroscience research, education and community engagement, Florida Atlantic held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute on FAU’s John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter. The multimillion-dollar, 58,000-square-foot facility will serve as a “beacon of hope” for the study and amelioration of numerous brain and behavioral disorders. Taking home an Honorable Mention is Ritvik Kesharaju, an undergraduate student in the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute, Growing Human Neurons (right).

Faculty Featured in Florida Trend

Gregg Fields, Ph.D., a professor in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, discusses the optimism of cancer treatment and therapy options for patients.

Fields is an executive director of FAU’s Institute for Human Health and Disease Intervention, and co-director of Memorial Cancer Institute Florida Atlantic University Cancer Center of Excellence.

Randy D. Blakely, Ph.D., executive director of FAU’s Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute, recently earned the 2022 Science Educator Award from the Society for Neuroscience’s (SfN) at the organization’s annual meeting in San Diego, Calif.

Teacher Education and School Leaders Programs Receive Clean CAEP Reaccreditation

Florida Atlantic University’s College of Education teacher education and school leaders programs that lead to eligibility for certification received final accreditation with no areas for improvement and no stipulations on Nov. 18, 2022 under the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) for a period of seven years from fall 2022 to fall 2029. Read more.
NeuroSquad Graduates
 
FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute's NeuroSquad recently graduated 21 junior neuroscientists through the Advancing STEM: Community Engagement through Neuroscience Discovery (ASCEND) NeuroExplorers program. An ASCEND graduation ceremony and laboratory tours were held at the new building on Dec. 14.

FAU on the Move

The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) named FAU the 2022 Degree Completion Award winner. The annual award identifies, recognizes and rewards institutions with innovative approaches to improve degree completion. This is the first time FAU has been the recipient of this prestigious award, and the second year in a row that the APLU has named FAU a finalist.

“It is an honor to receive the APLU Degree Completion Award,” said University President Emeritus John Kelly, Ph.D. “Our graduation and retention rates skyrocketed in recent years, thanks to the efforts of Florida Atlantic’s faculty and staff, who work tirelessly to ensure our students succeed.
