With more information than ever before, we know you’ll find the
answers to most of your questions on our website.
Dear Member, Supporter, Stakeholder,

We've got two really important pieces of information that we need to alert you to this week.

The first is about our current Open House and Try Out sessions running through September, October and November.

An OPEN HOUSE is just that, an opportunity to come along and try our programs, see what your child thinks about it and if you feel it will be a good choice for them. Once you decide it is right for them they can be registered and accept a spot in the program. It is NOT a selection process where children are put under unnecessary stress to perform and be selected or cut from the program. Exams and tests are not fun at the best of times so we don't put young children in that position, especially doing something they LOVE. In fact, Ontario Soccer removed the word 'try out' from this age group in 2015 and yet we still see soccer organizations offering try outs and trials at U8-U12 age groups - this should set off alarm bells for the discerning parent looking at other programs. None of our coaches feel comfortable telling a child that they don't make the cut when it's something the child loves to do and wants to get better at. We imagine parents can empathize with the position that puts our coaches in and for these reasons we will do everything possible to create player pools for everyone attending.

A TRY OUT or trial is an opportunity for older players (U13-U18) to show their ability against other players of the same age. At these ages youth are better able to comprehend the feedback provided to them from coaches and during a try out session the players will no doubt be comparing their skills to others. The players maturity now affords them the ability to see how they rank compared to their peers. Having said that, players are still developing in a non-linear fashion and that is why PFC aims to provide teams at multiple levels. A player may move up or down between teams during a season, or during the course of their teen years at the Club, so having teams at OPDL, CSL, DRSL and Rec gives them a full range of competition levels that meet their ability and commitment. We have a place for EVERY player.
The second piece of important information relates to the development of a PFC Vaccination Policy. You will no doubt have seen the Ontario Soccer Information Bulletin. The Club will adhere to the requirements stated in this bulletin as Ontario Soccer continues to work closely with the the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries to maintain a safe return to sport. The requirements pertain to 'Indoor areas of facilities used for sports and recreational fitness activities, including waterparks, and personal fitness training' and that 'Effective September 22, 2021, patrons seeking access to the following areas of the premises of the following businesses or organizations must show proof of identification and proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before they can enter the area.' There are limited exceptions of which those pertaining to Pickering Soccer Centre are 'workers or volunteers, including coaches and officials'.

The Club will continue to provide information on the development of our own PFC Vaccination Policy that will compliment the requirements of Ontario Soccer and the Ontario Ministry of Health. In the meantime, everyone is encouraged to review the updated Ontario Soccer Return to Play Guide. Anyone with questions about this direction is asked to contact Executive Director Matt Greenwood at execdirector@pickeringfc.ca

Barriers to Sport
& Recreation Study
We need your help! We are looking to connect with members of Durham's priority populations to get your feedback on how to improve recreational and sport opportunities in the Durham Region.

We are looking for help from community leaders who can assist us in reaching our target populations including: newcomers, seniors, people with disabilities, LGBTQ2+, and indigenous populations.

This project will allow us to design and test new programs that meet community needs, explore ways to make our facilities more accessible, and find ways to ensure that new programs are sustainable. Our goal is to make the benefits of active participation and an active lifestyle more accessible to priority populations.

Please contact Tammy at allabilities@pickeringfc.ca for more information.
Pickering’s City Centre is undergoing a bold transformation and the City of Pickering invites residents, business, and stakeholders to share their thoughts on the proposed spaces and user experience.

Inspired by world-renowned public spaces, the project will see an exciting array of new, state-of-the-art municipal facilities, including a Performing Arts Centre, a combined Seniors & Youth Centre, and a relocated and expanded Central Library, surrounded by a vibrant and pedestrian-friendly public square.
From now until September, members of the public can register online and share their thoughts on the features, functionalities, and user experience of one or more of the proposed facilities.
