Dear Trinity family,

As you know, COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Virginia and across the country. We are clearly in a new phase of this pandemic. Our priority is always the health and well-being of our entire community. Following guidance from Bishop Goff, the following measures are necessary and effective immediately:

  • Masks must be worn by all people, vaccinated or unvaccinated, inside the building. We continue to have masks and hand sanitizer available throughout our buildings.
  • We are suspending congregational singing.
  • Greeting before church, at the peace, and after services will be without contact.
  • Café Trinity is suspended until further notice.

Our 10:30am Holy Eucharist is live-streamed on Facebook and is available to watch any time after the service has ended. Morning Prayer and Compline continue weekdays. We might be physically distant, but we are connected in Spirit, prayer, and love.

My love and affection for you grows daily. This is an amazing community, and we will get through this together. Please join me in praying for the health and well-being of our neighbors, our community, and for our human family:

Loving God, we thank you for calling us to be ambassadors of your love for all. Open our hearts, day by day, to see and serve those needs that we are able to meet in our communities and neighborhoods. Give us wisdom to discern and support those policies and leaders that can best serve your dream of wholeness for your whole Creation. Deliver us from the temptations of cynicism and despair, and give us courage to live always in hope, however countercultural that may sometimes seem. We pray in the name of our crucified and risen Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Blessings and love,
Mother Cynthia+

Caregivers' Support Group

The Caregivers’ Support Group will meet this Thursday, August 12th, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. in the Health Ministries Room at Trinity.

Men and women who are caregivers for a disabled or ill adult (or child) are invited to attend the meeting.

For more information, call Randall (540-207-0600), Claire (540-479-6988) or Brenda (540-226-2628).

Trinity's Drop-In Grief Support Group

Trinity's Drop-In Grief Support Group meets again on Monday, August 16, in the lounge from 10:30 a.m. – noon.

Why attend a grief support group? Lots of reasons, chief among them to learn what grief, suffering, loss and pain have to teach us, and why tears are healing. Remember, grief is both a necessity and a privilege. It comes as a result of giving and receiving love.

For additional information contact Randall (540-207-0600) or Ruth (540-760-6636).

Sunday School Teachers and Other Interested Folks

There will be an official Godly Play training session at Trinity (with a real trainer!) for anyone who is interested on Saturday August 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Jamison Hall.

Lunch will be provided. This is a joint class with St. George’s church. There is no charge to the individual; Trinity and St. George’s will cover the cost of the class. Anyone may participate; you don’t have to currently be teaching Godly Play. Please contact Sam Burton at sburton@trinity-fredericksburg.org if you are interested in this opportunity.

Spaces are limited so reserve yours now!

Book Review

Courage Has No Color, The True Story of the Triple Nickles: America's First Black Paratroopers by Tanya Lee Stone, grade 5+

During World War II while thousands of American soldiers were fighting oversees against the injustices brought on by Hitler, back on the home front, the injustice of discrimination against African Americans played out as much on Main Street as it did in the military. Enlisted black men were segregated from white soldiers and regularly relegated to service duties rather than being trained for combat duties.

The author examines the role of African Americans in the military through the history of the Triple Nickles, America’s first black paratroopers, who fought a little-known attack on the American West by the Japanese. The 555th Parachute infantry Battalion, in the words of their commander, “proved that the color of a man had nothing to do with his ability.”
