Mexican Tetra cavefish have long been of interest in understanding adaptation to severe environmental change. Wilkes Honors College, Bethany Stanhope, Ph.D., executive director for academic operations of FAU's Jupiter campus along with Itzel Sifuentes-Romero, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow in Kowalko Lab, Estephany Ferrufino, Kowalko lab manager, Sunishka Thakur, Kowalko lab tech and collaborators present a chromosome-level genome for the proxy-ancestral surface fish, and use CRISPR gene-editing to show the role of the rx3 gene in eye size... Randy Blakely, Ph.D., executive director and his hard-working staff are driving FAU’s Brain Institute to be at the front line of understanding and treating disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, depression and Alzheimer’s disease, while preparing the next generation of researchers for success, and educating our community on mental health.

Thanks to a generous $35 million investment from the state — the largest public investment in a research facility in university history — the FAU Neuroscience Building will add 58,000 square feet of critically needed laboratory space to accommodate our rapid growth in Jupiter. Political Science Professor Leads “Informed and Engaged” Talk 
Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College Professor Mark Tunick, Ph.D., led a discussion on First Amendment cases on Monday, February 22 at the Palm Beach County Library as part of the “Life, Liberty, and Libraries” series. Dr. Tunick, a professor of political science who teaches political theory and constitutional law at the Honors College led the discussion of Kim Wehle’s “How to Read the Constitution and Why.” Dr. Tunick is the author of “Balancing Privacy and Free Speech: Unwanted Attention in the Age of Social Media” and “Texting, Suicide, and the Law.”

Randy Blakely, Ph.D., executive director of the FAU Brain Institute was featured on 100.3 Legends Radio Community Focus program Sunday, February 28. Host Mike McGann talked to Dr. Blakely about the FAU Neuroscience Building currently under construction on FAU's Jupiter campus, "Brainy Days," and how the FAU Brain Institute is training the next generation of brain scientists.


FAU Thrive hosts an open conversation with Licensed Mental Health Counselor Natasha Watkinson, LMHC, NCC, M.Ed. on mental health, substance abuse, and mindful ways to cope with depression and anxiety.
