Researchers from Florida Atlantic University’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science have developed a first-of-its-kind technique that is minimally invasive and greatly enhances the ability to measure neonate turtle sex ratios at population levels across nesting sites worldwide. Alex Keene, Ph.D., a professor of biological sciences in FAU's Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, Rod Murphey, Ph.D., associate vice president for academic affairs of FAU's John D. MacArthur Campus and Evelyn Frazier, Ph.D., in FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science were awarded a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant to fund an Undergraduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement (U-RISE) at Florida Atlantic University. U-Rise will immerse a diverse group of undergraduate students in scientific training, and prepare them for matriculation into research-based graduate programs. U-Rise is coming this Fall to FAU Jupiter.
Jon Moore, Ph.D., a professor of Biology in the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College collaborated with researchers from the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology and University of Florida to examine the novel reproductive strategy of deep-sea fish providing parental care via mouth brooding. The study titled, “Novel life history strategy in a deep sea fish challenges assumptions about reproduction in extreme environments,” was published in the February online publication of Scientific Reports.

FAU' Brain Institute Ascend Program launched a s new virtual series for kids called "How Does My Brain Work?" Episode 1 is titled, "Your Brain is a Power Hungry Organ." Check out how the brain gets its energy.

For those who are unable to access the library or are working remotely, FAU Libraries recently launched Lib2Go to help serve the Florida Atlantic University community. Lib2Go is a listing of available online resources and services.

The FAU Marketing Team has updated the PowerPoint templates available on the Public Affairs website and the Operations Manual to include an “About FAU” slide. Their hope is that faculty and staff presenting to outside groups will use this slide to first tell them about FAU and help spread the FAU story.
Calling All Visual Artists and Poets!

In this age of uncertainty and isolation, it is important for us to reach out to each other and express ourselves. We encourage you to create a piece of confinement poetry or quarantine art to share with our community. A committee of faculty, students, and staff will award prizes for excellent submissions. The deadline to submit is Wednesday, April 15, by 5:00 p.m. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.
