I need to give a huge shout out to Khaled and Tiffani for their exemplary performance in the BB this week!! If you have not heard of the soup Nazi and, "No Soup for You!" I encourage you to Google it. They will forever be known most affectionately in my heart as "The Blood Nazis, "NO BLOOD FOR YOU!"
It was a tough week. We screened blood around the clock, and at times the residents were more strict than I might have been! It was good that I heard their opinions; we needed to start out as aggressive as possible so that the hospital physicians get used to a low inventory. They did an awesome job, and their efforts ensured that the patients who needed blood received it, and that none was wasted
What impressed me the most is that they were both able to calmly explain to house staff when blood was and was not urgently needed. They both were able to keep the clinicians from hoarding it when unnecessary, and convinced them to order a type and screen instead of a cross match (freeing up the blood on our shelves for all patients to use). I always tell the residents if the docs complain to give him/her my cell number -
no one called
.
These are tough times and our residents excelled! If you see them, please acknowledge their good work!!
My great thanks!
Claire
P.S. Tiffani did not have to take first call this week; she was on second call for a first year. I offered to take call myself, but she stepped up and helped and did a tremendous job. Our residents rock!
