Commissioner Reid honored for 15 years of service
|
At Tuesday's monthly board meeting, Skokie Park District Commissioner Susan Aberman presented an Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) plaque to board President Mike Reid, honoring him for his 15 years of service on the board, many as its president.
"In his 15 years here, Mike has never missed a monthly board meeting, budget meeting or public hearing," said Aberman. "He has attended nearly every major event the park district has held, including serving as emcee for the Skokie Festival of Cultures, the 3-D Fireworks Festival, and Skokie’s Backlot Bash."
Reid was elected to the board of commissioners in 2005 and has helped oversee many of the major projects and programming changes made by the park district, including the creation of Skokie’s Backlot Bash, and the renovation of The Exploritorium, the Skatium Ice Arena, and the Weber Leisure Center and its Fitness First health club. During his tenure so far, the Skokie Park District also has been recognized as an Illinois Distinguished Accredited Agency three times.
In 2017, Reid earned 'master board member' status from the IAPD. He is now an IAPD board trustee, helping to provide research and education to advance hundreds of Illinois park and recreation agencies. He also serves on the IAPD’s Honors and Resolutions Committee, the Research Advisory Committee and the Joint Legislative Committee.
Reid was re-elected to the park district board in 2011 and 2017, and is up for re-election to the IAPD board in January 2021.
