JULY/AUGUST 2022
Greetings!

I hope you are enjoying these final weeks of summer.

We are excited for the new academic year, under the leadership of Head of School Chris Tennyson.

We kick off on August 14 with preseason for fall athletes. The All-School Handshake, a tradition that marks the first day of school, will take place in the Formal Gardens on August 22. LFA expects to be enrolled at full capacity: 440 students!

And, of course, our biggest and most celebratory occasion of the fall is Alumni Weekend & Reunion with all of you! The event takes place September 23-24 and is open to ALL alumni, with special emphasis on those classes ending in "2" or "7". See below for details on the weekend.

Have a terrific week!

Help Us Make Alumni Weekend & Reunion a Celebration to Remember
Alumni Weekend & Reunion is always a festive celebration, and the time is even more special because of the alumni and alumnae who get involved. Head of School Chris Tennyson looks forward to welcoming you back to Lake Forest.

Here are a few ways you can add on, or have elevated participation in, the weekend events scheduled for Sept. 23-24.

Contribute a Ferry Hall memory – As we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the opening of the Ferry Hall dorm on campus, we are featuring stories from your days at Ferry Hall – in the dorms and beyond. Submit stories and pictures here.

Remember classmates who are no longer with us – A meaningful time during the weekend is the Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday. We are looking for people to read the list of departed alumni/ae from their class and/or share a memory.

Class connector – Everything is better with a group! Be sure you have as many classmates in attendance as possible by sending a few emails or texts.

If you are able to participate in any of these ways, follow the appropriate link or contact Hannah Shallenberger, Director of Annual and Reunion Giving.

To see the Alumni Weekend & Reunion schedule and to register, go to www.lfanet.org/reunion (Early bird pricing ends Sept. 1.)

Alumni from 2001-2018 Gather for Summer Happy Hour in Chicago
Head of School Chris Tennyson received a warm welcome into his new leadership role at the Academy during a summer happy hour on July 21 at Happy Camper Wrigleyville. Alumni from the classes of 2001-2018, along with their guests and LFA faculty members, gathered on the rooftop patio of Happy Camper for a night of cheer. Congratulations, Chris, and a special thank you to our alumni Host Committee. View photos from our event here.
Picnic Draws Alumni, Families to Campus
Thank you to the many alumni (from the classes of 1952 through 2022), alumni parents, grandparents, and friends of LFA and Ferry Hall for joining us on campus on August 7 for a welcome picnic for Head of School Chris Tennyson. We enjoyed delicious picnic food and entertainment for the children, while catching up with friends and former and current faculty members. Thank you to our Host Committee members for drumming up support for the gathering. Here are a few photos (mix of candids and formals) from the picnic; watch for more in the next issue of the alumni enews.

Am I Too Young for a Will?
If you Google search "appropriate age to write a will," you will find a number of articles telling you that in most states you must be at least 18 years of age. That’s not much help. Ask an estate planning professional the same question, and they will most likely give you some version of this answer – if you have assets of any kind you would like to leave to others, you should have a will. Illinois Residents – Get a 75% Tax Credit and Your Scholarship Gift Matched
The State of Illinois’ Invest In Kids Scholarship Tax Credit Program allows individuals to support financial aid for students at Lake Forest Academy and then receive 75% of their total donation back in Illinois state tax credit.

Thanks to an anonymous LFA family, all contributions to Invest in Kids and designated to LFA, up to $250,000, will be matched - doubling your impact. Act now as funds are limited.

32% of LFA families receive some form of need-based financial aid. A strong financial aid program is critical in ensuring the LFA student body is a dynamic group, with various backgrounds, cultures, and talents.

Health Center Construction Underway
We're making progress on our new Health Center and thank all of you who supported this project. The Center will exist in the space formerly occupied by "Hutch", our old dining hall. The $1.5 million Health Center will house both physical and psychological health services. More details to come in next month's issue of the alumni enews.
