Pitt School of Social Work Weekly E-blast
Rauktis releases new report
Research Associate Professor Mary Beth Rauktis's brief "Pandemic’s impact on the youth in foster care and how schools are tackling their learning and emotional needs" was just released.
This is funded through the Momentum Funding grant that she received for a study of COVID-19 and education and foster parents/children in 2021. Read full report and one-page summary here.
Huguley and Kyere win Best Paper Award
Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion James Huguley and PhD alumnus Eric Kyere have won the 2020 Best Paper Award from the Journal of Ethnic & Cultural Diversity in Social Work for their article "Exploring the process by which positive racial identity develops and influences academic performance in Black youth: Implications for social work." Student receives fellowship for her work with Rosen
Medical student Rebecca Georgiadis has been named a Roth Fellow in support of her medical student Scholarly project “COVID-19 Impacts on a Local Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD)." Professor Danny Rosen is her mentor on the project and has been working with her for the past three years. Read more about the project.
Alumna named to Oversight Board
MSW alumna Robyn Markowitz Lawler was just appointed for a one-year term to serve on the State College Community Oversight Board, which was created to increase transparency with the State College Police Department. Read more.
Alumnus uses love of music to give back to community
MSW alumnus and former adjunct Al Condeluci (pictured right) is part of the DooWop Doctors--two longtime friends who played in a band together in their youth and have reunited in retirement to raise funds for various nonprofits. Read more in Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Pitt 2022 Community Engaged Scholarship Forum RFP
On March 1, 2022, the University of Pittsburgh will be virtually hosting our annual Community-Engaged Scholarship Forum (CESF). The CESF elevates, celebrates, and reflects on collective approaches to community-engaged scholarship and practices that advance mutually beneficial, community-identified priorities.

If you are interested in participating in the CESF, there are many ways to share your work, engage our community and recognize your colleagues. 

Present a workshop or presentation! Your work could be shared in a variety ways: 
  • 7 minute lightning session
  • An oral presentation
  • A workshop or panel
  • A poster presentation 
Your presentation concept can be submitted here and is due by December 22.
 
Nominate someone for one of three prestigious awards. 
 
The Partnerships of Distinction Award annually recognizes outstanding partnerships that are exemplars of community engagement. Up to three awardees may be chosen annually. Each award consists of a $2,000 operating grant to support partnership activities.
 
The Tracy Soska and Dr. John Wilds Outreach and Engagement Leadership Award honors a faculty member or staff engagement professional who serves the University of Pittsburgh through their outstanding dedication to University-community connections.

The CESF Collaboration Champion Award recognizes a member of the University of Pittsburgh community or a community partner who has made significant contributions to the University of Pittsburgh’s culture of collaboration, further sustaining and supporting the institution’s commitment to strengthening communities through teamed work.

Your nomination can be submitted here and is due by December 22.
