The Tiger's Roar!
Tildenville Elementary School, Winter Garden, FL
"A National Magnet School of Distinction"
Wednesday, March 25, 2020

This is our first Tiger's Roar! issue in what would have been a normal start to the final nine-week quarter of 2019-2020. Of course, due to the national health issue at this time things are not normal. However, we believe the situation will be gradually improving for everyone as the days pass. In the meantime, next Monday, March 30th we will be rolling out teacher-facilitated distance learning. We encourage all of our Tildenville families to check the OCPS website for more information on distance learning as well as the latest news related to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. Hopefully, all of our students will return to school as currently planned on Wednesday, April 15!

I do want to also thank all of our families that invested some of their time this year to complete our annual parent survey. Once we get the combined results, we will use the findings to help us with school improvement planning. Your help was most appreciated!

Finally, thank you for your support beginning next Monday with the teacher facilitated distance learning. All of our teachers' emails can be found on the website. This is a temporary situation, but our students have been working so hard right up to their spring break. We want to avoid losing much, if any, of their momentum so this is quality time at home well spent. Please know that all of their teachers are ready to help our Tigers next week from home. We have very bright students and their teachers are fiercely dedicated. Then with the support of our parents, the distance learning will be quite successful over the short-run until classes resume. Our Tigers can and will do just fine!

To login into Accelerated Reader follow these steps:
  • Login into launch.ocps.net
  • Click on Library Research Tools
  • Click on Renaissance
Remember that Accelerated Reader is designed for students to take quizzes on their reading levels independently. This means students are able to read the book on their own, read the quiz questions and the answer choices without assistance.

Free Grab-and-Go Meals

Grab-and-Go meals are now available for pick-up between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the car loop of each school site. Students must be present to receive the meals. District staff will distribute the meals directly to those in their vehicle (drive-thru service). Meals will be given directly to any students walking and/or riding a bike. Based on recommendations from our federal and state leaders, all meals should be taken home to eat.

Please visit OCPS.net for the full list of locations.

Free WiFi for 60 days

Charter announced that beginning this week it will offer free broadband and WiFi access for 60 days to families with K-12 students or college students who do not already have a Spectrum subscription. The company is also waiving its installation fees for new subscribers.

To enroll in the free broadband and WiFi program, you can call 1-844-488-8395.

ALL TESTING CANCELLED

According to a press conference early last week, Governor Ron DeSantis says all required testing for Florida's K-12 schools is canceled. Students will not be taking EOC, FSA, NGSSS, FCAT 2.0 and CFE assessments. Requirements for graduation, grade promotion and final course grades will be evaluated as if those assessments did not exist, the governor said.
