SPORTS RECAP
“To watch our teams and coaches in action on Friday was awesome. Was it different and strange? Absolutely … The kids are glad to be back in general on campus but they are just loving being able to get busy again in Athletics.” – Dixie Jeffers, interim director of Athletics and Recreation

Men’s Basketball and Track and Field kicked off action this past weekend and it felt great! We look forward to Women’s Basketball beginning its season this weekend as well. We talked with interim director of Athletics Dixie Jeffers on our AD Update about the return to play, how the protocols are working, and a few fun topics like her Super Bowl pick and restaurants to support during Columbus Restaurant Week!

JOSH MILLER SETS NEW SCHOOL RECORD, WINS TWO EVENTS TO OPEN THE YEAR
He’s back at it again! Senior Josh Miller has picked up right where he left off from last March to highlight Capital’s appearance at the OAC Early Showcase, hosted by Otterbein University last Sunday. Miller won both events he participated in, the shot put and the weight throw, and even set a new school record. He broke his own record in the weight throw by more than a full meter with an event-winning toss of 18.15 meters.

MEN’S BASKETBALL SPLIT OPENING WEEKEND IN PAIR OF THRILLING FINISHES
Men’s Basketball played a pair of down-to-the-wire contests with Muskingum University last weekend, winning one and losing one. In the season and home opener, Capital saw its 10-point lead vanish and come down to the final three possessions of the game. David Sanford drained a game-tying 3-pointer but that was answered by Muskingum’s M.J. Smith, who hit the game-winner with just under three seconds to go, giving the Muskies a 58-55 win.

Capital returned the favor the following night in a very similar storyline. Once down 17, the Crusaders battled and with one swift run midway through the second half eviscerated the deficit to set up its late heroics. This time Keandre Graves answered the call and hit the game-tying layup with 0.3 seconds remaining. A foul was called on the play, giving Graves a chance to give Capital the lead, and with the made free throw, CU was able to hold on for a 73-72 victory.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO RESTART THIS WEEKEND
Women’s Basketball will dive into its first action of the season this weekend with a series against Heidelberg University. The Purple and White will host the Student Princes on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and then play game two of the weekend set on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Tiffin. Live stats and video will be available for both games on athletics.capital.edu.

WATCH CAPITAL ATHLETIC EVENTS WHEREVER THEY ARE, FROM WHEREVER YOU ARE!
Whether the Crusaders are on the road or here at home, you can tune in to all the action from one place, and that is OAC TV! Fans can download the OAC TV app through the Apple App Store or Google Play to view events from your mobile device. ATHLETICS HAS RESTARTED! HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • First and foremost, the health and safety of our student-athletes and staff are Capital’s first priority when policy and protocol are being considered and implemented.
  •  Only essential personnel will be permitted to games and events through the month of February. This, unfortunately, means there will be no fans, media, or support groups (cheer, pep bands, etc.). Fan attendance will be reassessed in late February.
  • Schedules changes will likely happen, so stay alert to changes that are announced via our social media channels or athletics website (athletics.capital.edu).
  • We still need your support, so watch all games (home or away) streamed online this season. Links will be provided on the athletics website and social media channels.
