Mt. Mary Food Science Graduate &

Researcher at Third Wave Bioactives

The food we eat should make us healthier and the world a better place - that's not just Rachel's viewpoint, it's her personal quest as a food scientist. Her classes at Mount Mary University in food engineering, statistics, microbiology, and chemistry prepared her for her current role at Third Wave Bioactives.

She was hired as an intern at Third Wave Bioactives as a researcher. This internship lead to a full-time position before graduation. Her role and the company align perfectly with Rachel’s goal of being a better consumer. Third Wave Bioactives produces natural food products that help to make the flavor of the foods better and increase the shelf life, all while utilizing cleaner, more natural ingredients.

To inspire the next generation of talent into the career-making possibilities of our food and beverage industry, FaB hosts its Farm to Factory to Fork High School Career Discoveries.

With nearly half of our existing working population due to retire, ensuring there is a pipeline of talent for the food and beverage industry is more important than ever. Additionally, talent is required if we are to double our food production by the year 2050 to feed a global population of 9.7 billion.

Since 2014, over 2,000 high school students have met with an impressive collection of exhibitors, including ingredients, consumer product and packaging makers, grocery retail, and professional service firms focused on the industry. Students hear from industry leaders and innovators, participate in interactive discovery activities for valuable hands-on learning, and share their ideas for feeding the world.
