The Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department
(WOPHD) reported a positive case of COVID-19
. On March 17, the State of WI issued a statewide ban on all mass gatherings of 10 or more people to mitigate the spread of the virus. These measures are intended to help "
flatten the curve
" and reduce the spread of COVID-19 in a given timeframe. This will help ease the burden on the healthcare system.

District teachers are currently preparing virtual learning experiences for students to start on March 30. Here is the current teaching schedule:
- Week of March 16 - Teachers planning and preparing virtual learning experiences for students. This includes recording lessons, working together virtually to prepare materials, and getting organized for March 30th’s first virtual teaching session.
- Week of March 23 - Spring Break
- Week of March 30 - Virtual Instruction begins
Elementary and Secondary teachers will be providing families with information about each week’s learning requirements through a Virtual Learning Schedule (
elementary
) and through our learning management system (
Canvas
) for 6-12.

- Teachers will conduct virtual, online, learning experiences for students each day.
- Families should set aside time for students to listen and learn from the lessons provided.
- Parents should set aside time each school day for virtual learning time. Though this does not have to be all at one time, scheduled time for students to engage and complete the various lessons will be important.

District Psychologists and Counselors will be contacting families soon regarding any student mental health needs that your children may be experiencing that we could support either through an online session or consultation with parents.

the following dates, "Grab and Go" Breakfast and lunches will be made available by the CSD Food Service provider, Aramark, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM:
- Monday, March 16 - Friday, March 20
- Monday, March 30 - Friday, April 3
- Monday, April 6 - Thursday, April 9
For the week of Spring Break (March 23-27) and for Good Friday (April 10), pickup of "Grab and Go" meals will not be available. However, extra meals will be available for families on March 20th and April 9th to help cover days without service during Spring Break and Good Friday. The Washington Ozaukee Public Health Departments have asked for our assistance in sharing information regarding best practice during school closure. The impact of a single case in any one school in a district is extremely significant, hence our decision to proactively close schools. If one student or staff member becomes infected, everyone who was in close contact will need to be quarantined for 14 days. Regarding community spread, the CDC and public health officials suggest a heightened monitoring over the next 14 days for any symptoms related to COVID-19. Symptoms include:
- mild to severe respiratory symptoms including a dry cough
- fever
- shortness of breath
Should your child exhibit any of these symptoms, contact your health provider and proactively take necessary steps to isolate yourself or your family. Close contacts include anyone who spends time, within six feet, of the positive case. When considering the proximity of a school environment, the contacts and exposures grow exponentially, and quickly. We are supporting closures because there is community transmission.
If we all practice social distancing, we will return to school more quickly. Our goal is to reduce the spread of the virus and return to school and business as usual.
We recommend you follow the CDC and Public Health Department guidelines regarding social distancing and group size for gathering.

- WOPHD is working on posting a list of community resources such as open food pantries, school meal plans, daycares that are accepting children, and other services on our website washozwi.gov. Please check that site frequently for updates.

- The National Assoc. of School Psychologists NASP offers this resource to assist in talking with your child about COVID-19.
- For tips on social distancing and how to balance that with your young child's need for interaction, please visit the DPI's information on Social Distancing and Coping with Stress.
- Free internet offer: Charter Communication announced this past Friday morning it will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a subscription.
