Is there an emergency kit in your vehicle?

While winter is (hopefully) winding down, your should still carry an emergency kit in your vehicle.


Emergency kits improve safety when vehicles break down or travel is stalled, not matter what the weather or reason. Things to always include in your vehicle emergency kits include:


  • Bottled/canned water and shelf-stable snacks
  • First aid kit
  • Cell phone charger
  • Masks
  • Blankets
  • Flashlights and batteries
  • Flashlight batteries
  • Sturdy footwear
  • Reflective clothing


Things to add in winter months:

  • Gloves
  • Warm water-repellant clothing
  • Shovels
  • Snow brushes/ice scrapers
  • Traction devices for travel in snow zones or other areas with steep grades

Open Houses


See the ways many public agencies and cities within Washington County plan to reduce the impacts of natural disasters by participating in an online open house through March 5.


The Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan is being updated. Hazard mitigation is work that is done before disaster strikes to help lessen impacts to life, property and the environment.

Comment Opportunities

Register to participate in the next virtual workshop in the TV Highway Workshop Series. The next workshop is 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 11.
