Dear Member, Stakeholder, Supporter,

Last week Pickering FC was well represented at the Ontario Soccer Summit held in Ottawa. Not only did we have a strong number of club administration and coaches attending each workshop, field session, and key note speech, but we also had two staff presenting as part of the conference schedule.

Grassroots Director Hollie Babut delivered a strong session on grassroots soccer that was well received by those in attendance and garnered lots of positive chat on social media.

Shortly after that on the other side of the University of Ottawa Campus, PFC Executive Director Matt Greenwood spoke about the success of the long-running PFC All Abilities program and the state of programs across the country, with a call to action for more clubs to become inclusive.

Key note speaker Allison Forsyth led two sessions that many delegates went away discussing and analyzing. Her forceful message regarding the changes that need to happen in sport and the pending Safe Sport movement were both moving and motivational.

From current issues within national sport organizations to the growing Gen-Z demographic we can expect to see considerable changes at all levels of sport that will improve the safety and well-being of athletes, coaches, officials and administrators.

ALL Clubs are required to complete screening of their volunteers, and we are proud to say PFC have taken that one step further by creating a Safe Sport page on our website, but we will all need to go further in the future and do better as a sport community. Look out for more development in this area soon.

The 2024 Summit was announced at the conclusion of this years event and will be hosted in our backyard across York Region. We look forward to having even more coaches and team staff in attendance as the game is evolving quickly.
