October Funding Focus Newsletter #1
What is a Limited Submission?
A limited submission solicitation (RFA, RFP, etc.) places a cap on the number of proposals that Auburn may submit to a sponsor. Auburn coordinates limited submissions by sending out a notification via this newsletter and creating competitions in the Auburn University Competition Space (also known as InfoReady). To apply to any limited submission posted in this newsletter, click on the link below and search for your competition listed on the page. Please refer to the Limited Submission Procedures page for a general list of requirements. However, it is recommended that you go to the specific competition as soon as possible and review the requirements to ensure that you are preparing what is requested since the required information for competitions may vary.
Found a Limited Submission opportunity that interests you?
If so, please contact the PSFS office sooner than later so that an internal competition can be created for a timely, university-wide, fair and equitable selection process that allows for ample time for review, feedback and revisions.

The purpose of this program is to identify, engage, educate, and collaborate with rural stakeholders on national rural health policy issues and promising practices to improve health care in rural areas nationwide.

 Program objectives include:
  1. Identifying and educating rural stakeholders about national policy issues and promising practices for rural health.
  2. Maintaining projects that will help support engagement of rural communities in a broad range of activities.
  3. Facilitating collaborations at the local, regional, state, and national levels to improve the exchange of information and promising practices that support rural health.
  4. Identifying and providing information to rural stakeholders about existing federal funding opportunities or other programs relating to health care in rural areas.

A successful program will continue to build upon the federally funded resources that currently exist, leverage the broad network of rural health organizations and individual subject matter experts, and provide a mechanism to engage with public rural health stakeholders beyond Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funded award recipients and current partners to improve health care in rural areas.

The E-CORE RII program supports jurisdictions in building capacity in one or more targeted research infrastructure cores that underlie the jurisdiction's research ecosystem. Based on the evidence-based and self-identified need of the jurisdiction, capacity building supported by E-CORE RII may include (but is not limited to) development, enhancement, and/or sustainability of:

  • jurisdiction-wide research administration;
  • research facilities; higher education pathways;
  • STEM education (K-16) pathways;
  • broadening participation;
  • workforce development;
  • national and global partnerships;
  • community engagement and outreach;
  • economic development and use-inspired research;
  • and/or early career research trainee pathways

E-CORE RII projects must be designed to support the sustainability of the infrastructure core(s) beyond the award period. In E-CORE RII's support of one or more research infrastructure cores in an EPSCoR-eligible jurisdiction, the program will also support the development and growth of new jurisdictional networks, and the leveraging of existing jurisdictional networks, that can drive demonstrable and sustainable impact to advance the jurisdiction-wide research ecosystem.

NSF-PAR System Updates

Effective October 2, 2023, the National Science Foundation (NSF) updated the NSF Public Access Repository (NSF-PAR) system with a new, streamlined submission workflow enabling NSF award recipients to add and manage journal articles, conference papers, conference proceedings, datasets, and workshop reports as separate and distinct products, and allowing products with a digital object identifier (DOI) from Crossref.org or DataCite.org to integrate seamlessly into the NSF-PAR. There are no changes to NSF’s Public Access policy or project reporting requirements.

Funding Opportunities

The Parkinson's Foundation is supporting innovative projects in need of support to see their maximum impact on the Parkinson's community.

Impact Awards are designed for both established and new-to-the-field researchers of PD. Projects should be "outside the box" with the goal of bringing new light to the biology of Parkinson's, a new approach to Parkinson’s research, or testing a truly novel therapeutic idea. Projects should be based on unconventional ideas that are unlikely to be funded through more traditional funding mechanisms.

The Launch Award will cultivate a strong cohort of new and talented independent investigators dedicated to PD research. The award will provide research support to outstanding postdoctoral researchers that will enable them to complete needed mentored training and transition promptly to independent research careers in the PD field. This award is a two-stage program consisting of a Mentored Stage (1-2 years) and an Independent Stage (up to 2 years). The strongest applicants will propose a well-conceived plan for 1-2 years of mentored research training and career development to help them become competitive candidates for independent faculty positions, preparing them to launch robust, separate research programs studying PD.

**Please note - if interested in these opportunities, please contact Evan Havard, Foundation Relations Officer, Auburn Advancement.

LOIs for Both Opportunities Due: October 27, 2023

This grant program funds individual research projects undertaken by doctorates in anthropology or a closely related field. The goal is to support vibrant and significant work that furthers understanding of what it means to be human. There is no preference for any methodology, research location, topic, or subfield. The Foundation particularly welcomes proposals that integrate two or more subfields and pioneer new approaches and ideas.

Proposals Due: November 1, 2023, 11:59pm ET

  • New diagnostic tools that may be more rapid, more specific, more sensitive, less invasive
  • New treatment regimens that are improved or novel, less stressful or painful, more targeted, have fewer side effects, provide optimal dosing
  • Symptom relief
  • Preventative measures
  • Assessment of deficiencies or excesses (vitamins, minerals, drugs, etc.)
