English:

• What are you reading during independent reading time? We’re starting a unit on opinion columns, and students will be writing one. Ask: What issues are close to your heart? What bothers you in the world? What do you want to see changed?

Civics:

• How could you make flashcards for the Voting Rights Unit? Can I help you study for your upcoming Voting Rights quiz?

Science:

• What macromolecules are in food? What are we figuring out about how animals grow, move, and function? How is the chemical reaction of combustion similar to and different from the chemical reaction of cellular respiration?

*Note that math class information will not be included in our 9th grade newsletters. 

In some classes, students will have regular homework. In all classes, students should expect to study and spend time working on larger projects outside of the school day. Major assignments and projects are always launched during class time so that students have a solid understanding (and successful experience) before they move forward on their own or with a small group.

Soft Skill Credentialing: By November 8th, students can expect to see a finalized soft skill grade show up in PowerSchool for each of their classes.

An “S” means that the student is showing satisfactory soft skills. They are demonstrating behaviors and habits that are appropriate for college classes.

An “N” means that the student “needs improvement” and does not yet show appropriate soft skills that are necessary for success in college classes. The student should meet with their BASE advisor and/or review PowerSchool comments to work on improving their soft skills.
