Edda Fields-Black Named Director of The Humanities Center

Edda Fields-Black, a professor of history, has been appointed director of The Humanities Center, effective July 1.

NSF Fellowship Opens Doors for Will Noll

Will Noll has received the 2024 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Noll plans to leverage brain-computer interfaces as a research tool to learn more about how the brain controls movement while integrating sensory feedback.

A Philosophy Major Walks into a Newsroom

Eric Salzman was drawn to CMU because of photos in a brochure. Today, he is a senior producer for “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” and is known for out-of-the-box media concepts and content.

Dietrich College welcomes 28 new scholars who bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise and innovative thinking to various areas of study across the college.

Upcoming Events

  • Celebration of Life: Please join us as we honor the extraordinary legacy of Jared L. Cohon, CMU's eighth president. The event will be held on Monday, Sept. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Rangos Ballroom, Cohon University Center. Register for the event.


  • Join us for CMU Day at PNC Park: You can showcase your school pride and root for the Pittsburgh Pirates with your fellow Tartans on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 1:35 to 4:35 p.m. at PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA. Register for the event.


  • Deeper Conversations: During the 2024-2025 academic year, the university will explore critical topics related to democracy and the U.S. election. Dietrich College and the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy have led the planning efforts for this university-wide initiative. The first event, “Bridging the Divide: Understanding and Addressing Political Polarization in America,” will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The second event, “Immigration at the Ballot Box: Key Issue for 2024,” is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Learn more and register for the events.



  • Grace Hopper Celebration: The Philadelphia Network welcomes you to the City of Brotherly Love for a CMU alumni meet-up over drinks and appetizers on Oct. 8, 2024 at 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Register for the event.


  • CMU Universe Mentorship: Alums connect with those who share your background, interests, or other affiliations. Access alumni-led job referrals. Mentor current students who share common interests in your field of work. Think of it as LinkedIn where everyone is a first level connection. Join the CMU Universe Mentorship Platform.
